Seeking Employment References A dear friend, a seasoned doctor, has graciously provided references from various stages of his career, all of which have been glowing. However, there's one outstanding request from his Training Development Programmer, who has since retired. The prospective employer insists on a reference from the retiree. While the retiree is willing to acknowledge acquaintance with my friend, commenting on specific clinical matters after at least a decade-long gap is posing a challenge. While I understand the necessity of references, I implore employers to respect the preferences of not only retired individuals but those not in a position to provide a reference. Instead, prospective employers should seek insights from current employers/professionals who can offer up-to-date, relevant insight into candidates. Let's support each other in navigating the evolving landscape of professional references with mutual respect and understanding. #RetiredProfessional #Newemployers #EmploymentReferences #RespectfulCommunication 🤝

Both LinkedIn and Ziprecuiter have published data that come to the same conclusion: more jobs are prioritizing skills over degrees. It doesn't mean your degree is worthless. But it DOES mean that unless you are going into a traditional occupational path like medicine, nursing, or education, where your degree is directly linked to the profession, you cannot just depend on your degree to get you in. You have to talk differently about your skills and how those make you a great candidate for the role. Here's how to navigate that.
Employers are prioritizing skills over degrees. Here's how to navigate that.

I'm thrilled to announce the publication of our latest article (Title: The Role of Human Agency in Nurses' Hopeful Career State) in Human Resource Development Quarterly, co-authored with Dr. Issa Al Balushi, Tatum Risch. This piece not only furthers theoretical development by blending Albert Bandura's social cognitive theory of human agency with the Hopeful Career State from Hope-Action Theory but also explores its practical applications in Human Resource Development (HRD). In our research, we developed a model using the Agentic HRD Process Theory to enhance nurses' hopeful career states during challenging times. This model emphasizes that fostering hopefulness in employees involves the support of their families, colleagues, leaders, organizations, and even government bodies. How do you see these concepts applying in your professional sphere? What challenges might arise in fostering a hopeful career state in your field?
