It happened again today. Someone thought they knew what would be best for a close family member, who was the injured individual. They convinced them to get temporary treatment so they could drive several hours home and be treated definitively for an injury that required surgery. 😳 While their intentions might have been good, their advice was NOT. As a result, this person whom should have had their surgery done right then and there, declined and made the trip back home. Now, as a result, because of their decision, two procedures will need to be done rather than one. This is most likely due to the delay from the initial treatment and time between their ER visit and outpatient follow up. This happens with sports injuries all the time. While the timeline may vary, I see the same scenario play out time and time again. Wouldn't you rather have someone in your corner looking out for your best interest who knows the field? Who does this every day? Who is aware of the minute details that could potentially alter the course of your recovery??? I know, in this world it can be tough to trust people you do not know. 10moThis drives me NUTS!!!! I had to fight tooth and nail to get the treatment I needed, refusing meds, and ultimately ended up in the hospital for emergency surgery. I was trying for months to get seen by the surgeon! Everyone was telling me to get epidurals, take opioids, go to the pain med clinic. I refused. I faced the pain and ended up in the hospital. Thankfully that refusal allowed for a second option and second MRI showing my herniated disc ruptured into my spine causing me to not walk. Surgery was needed the whole time. Not meds. I’m walking and still without meds. The only drugs that I “took” were pumped into me in the hospital for 5 days-none of which took the pain away. You are so needed and valued and people need to ask and advocate for another opinion!!!!!!! 📣🙏🏽📣 calling all athletes: you need Brian in your corner.
