Urgent Support Needed After Shelter Fire – All Humans and Animals Safe! On November 4th, one of our worst fears was realized. An electrical fire caused by a short in our Oncor meter broke out in our kennel. Thanks to the quick actions of our staff and Seogoville Fire Department, we are relieved to be able to report all humans and animals are safe. That said, our shelter has suffered devastating damage that has left us in dire need of your support. Oncor will replace the meter however OHAR will be responsible for repairing wiring, copper, drywall, replacing the damaged equipment and food, and more. The Fire Marshall has “red-tagged” our kennels resulting in the temporary suspension of power and water until city inspectors greenlight the repairs. This process is expected to take several days and additional costs will be incurred as extra resources are needed to care for the animals during this time. At present, the identified repair expenses for just the electricians stand at $10,000 and will increase. It’s safe to say that this unexpected cost has caught us unprepared, and we are in urgent need of assistance.
