For 18 years, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has asked senior executives where innovation ranks on their companies’ to-do lists. This year, a record 8 in 10 execs reported that their companies rank innovation among their top 3 priorities. Another standout insight this year is the role of Generative AI (GenAI) as an innovation accelerator. While 86% of companies are experimenting with GenAI, only a small fraction are applying it at scale, missing out on opportunities to significantly reshape their innovation processes and enable new products, services, and business models. GenAI can be instrumental in closing the innovation readiness gap. Organizations that successfully integrate GenAI into their innovation systems are moving ahead, applying it more frequently in single use cases and achieving better results. It's time for more companies to leverage GenAI effectively and unlock its full potential. It seems an Achilles' heel for many companies is being innovation ready. Being innovation ready means three things: alignment, strategy, and leveraging AI technology effectively. - Strategic Foresight: Define your innovation mission clearly. - Innovation Readiness: Close gaps in strategy and governance. - Leveraging GenAI: Integrate AI with human expertise for scalable solutions. With the hybrid work model and AI's growing role, it's crucial to refine the approach to innovation.
