🌟 Community Solutions, Inc. celebrates Juneteenth! 🌟 On June 19, 1865, Union troops announced in Galveston, Texas, that all enslaved African Americans were free. This day, known as Juneteenth, marks a pivotal moment in history—emancipation from slavery in the U.S. Our CEO Fernando Muñiz reflects, “Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It is a celebration of freedom and a reminder that the moral arc of the universe bends toward justice. This Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to the work of equity and justice.” As an organization working in the criminal and juvenile justice systems, Community Solutions, Inc. is dedicated to ensuring that justice is not delayed for the people we serve. Our mission is to ensure that when individuals gain physical freedom, they also experience every other measure of freedom. Only then will we have achieved our true goal as a nonprofit organization committed to serving historically marginalized populations. Let’s honor this day by continuing to strive for a more just and equitable society. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #EquityAndJustice #CelebrateFreedom

New Entry on the #OhioMBE Wall of Shame: Columbus City Council We stand for #FairnessInBusiness & it's with concern we address the Council's recent 5-2 vote allowing non-citizens to bid on city projects & apply for certifications. This move potentially sidelines our local, minority-owned businesses, who are already facing an uphill battle. Moreover, the dismissive attitude of certain members, notably an "honorary" white woman council member Lourdes Barroso de Padilla, towards our Black community leaders is unacceptable. Respectful dialogue is key, and anything less is a disservice to our community. We urge the Columbus City Council to reevaluate their policies & conduct. Our community deserves better. #Accountability #Respect #MinorityBusiness Read more & stay informed https://lnkd.in/ejihJgYW https://lnkd.in/e-ig4Bsy

#ConfederateHeroesDay is a state holiday observed in Texas on the third Monday of January. It officially commemorates the lives of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and General Robert E. Lee, as well as other Confederate soldiers who died during the American Civil War. The Lost Cause narrative, which romanticized the Confederacy and portrayed the Civil War as a fight for states' rights rather than slavery, gained traction during this period. This narrative influenced how Confederate figures like Lee were remembered. However, the holiday remains a source of controversy due to its historical and symbolic significance. The holiday initially began in 1931 as separate observances for the birthdays of Jefferson Davis (June 3rd) and Robert E. Lee (January 19th). Confederate Heroes' Day is a complex and controversial holiday with a deep-rooted history. As the United States continues to grapple with its legacy of slavery and racial injustice, the debate over Confederate commemorations is likely to continue. I specialize in communications, education, and economic mobility, empowering leaders to create positive change. A strategic holistic approach to drive their mission for transformative outcomes for all.
Latino narratives matter and us writing our own stories and defining who we are is essential and not monolithic. We are the biggest ethnic group of people in the Western hemisphere, past, present and future. As an Afro-Indigenous Latina our resilience to keep family, community, hard work and growth in all ways (including spiritually) is a priority and we have not been deterred. Even with government foreign policy that keeps some of us “illegal” so that enslaved class of people is legal. Despite our financial contribution to the tax system, the immigration policy & narrative keeps a working class paying into a system yet unable to use the benefits of unemployment insurance or unable to file a tax return but the money still flows into these US govt institutions. Moreover, our families fleeing violence and not able to find refuge of peace here is met with their families being separated and these free people being inprisoned. We need to see the economic reasons behind why immigration has not been “fixed”, and why narratives from colonial times have not changed. All of this still does not change our love for family, we still are the most employed demographic in the US, and we know how to be grateful for what we have because we know the most precious things in this world is beyond the subjugation of our people, or the veil of falsehoods repeated by media. We are birthing the ancient future. Love. Wisdom. Work. These are the 3 principles of our collective indigenous civilization that shapes who are ancestors are, who we are today, and what we will live out and contribute to co-create a future of true peace and harmony. Palante mi gente! #latino #leadership #ancientfuture #love #work #wisdom #latina

May the memory of the men who fell victim to this horrific tragedy be honored and celebrated. Their contributions were countless and deserving of solemn gratitude rather than having their memory marred by hateful rhetoric. We will continue to organize, mobilize and unite to combat the false narratives that exist about our community. https://lnkd.in/gk5p5GCF

Today is #Juneteenth (Freedom Day) and at @authoracare, we recognize its impact as the start of creating lasting change. The Emancipation Proclamation, which was issued on Jan. 1, 1863, didn’t go into effect until more than 2 ½ years later, on June 19, 1865. That’s when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to free all enslaved people. Juneteenth blends the words “June” and “nineteenth” and has been celebrated since 1866. Celebrations can include church-centered community gatherings to highlight African-American freedom and arts. President Joe Biden signed legislation in 2021 establishing Juneteenth as a U.S. federal holiday. Let’s continue to educate ourselves about the deeply embedded, systemic racism so we can be part of the solution. #CEOAction #yourstory #ourexpertcare

Addressing masculinities and engaging men and boys in the prevention of men's violence against women
A reminder that Changing the picture outlines a range of actions that non-Indigenous people can take to challenge the condoning of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, challenge and prevent all forms of racism, indifference, ignorance and disrespect towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures, and address racialised power inequalities and amend discriminatory policies and practices - all factors which lead to the unacceptably high rates of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women: https://lnkd.in/dX4tMzHN
Read our full statement on the recent report on missing and murdered First Nations women and children on our website: https://bit.ly/3yHgV4K [Alt: White text on a navy background with green accents. Quote "For anything to change we first need to be honest about why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experience violence at the rates we do. Ongoing impacts of colonisation and deeply embedded racism, discrimination and bias in our society, systems and structures create a breeding ground where violence against our women is more likely to occur and be accepted."
