💔September marks Sickle Cell Awareness month and as you may know, Sickle Cell Disease is a devastating condition that affects millions globally, with a disproportionate impact on the Black community. It's not just a disease that affects individuals; it affects entire families. As someone with the Sickle Cell Trait myself, it was important for my wife and I to bring more awareness to this issue. Together, with Dorothy D., I produced a video a few years ago speaking to a Sickle Cell Warrior, Ronke and Sickle Cell advocate Adesayo Talabi to shine a light on the struggles faced by those living with the condition, their families, and the life-changing importance of blood donations. 🎥 Blood transfusions are a critical treatment for many living with this condition, and there's an ongoing need for diverse blood donors to support those affected. On Fridays, I usually do a Fun Janestorm FB poll. To be honest… I couldn't bring myself to do one today. This morning, I attended the funeral of a 59-year-old man who was diagnosed with leukemia just five weeks ago. His friends and family are now left with huge holes in their hearts, but also with beautiful memories to guide them through their grief. It got me thinking… We can do better. There’s too much meanness and name-calling on social media. Let’s be kind. Let’s think before we post something rude or hateful or lopsided. (I’ve seen it creeping in to LinkedIn) We can do better. Let’s do something good for the world. Let’s volunteer. Let’s share our strengths. Let’s cheer for others. Let’s give out random compliments. We can do better. Let’s call a relative. Let’s go for a walk. Let’s breathe. Let’s dance more in 2024. We can do better. Let’s seize the moments, because we have no idea when they’ll end.
