Are you competing your way to failure? What the cold brew coffee experiment taught me about innovation and competition. When I was in the trenches with Brew Lab Cold Brew, I was obsessed with out-innovating and out-competing brands like Sandows, Artemis, and Minor Figures. I was so focused on being first to market that I forgot to ask the most important question: What does the market actually want? Turns out, it wasn’t cold brew. 10 years later Tesco’s shelves are filled with ready to drink lattes and iced coffees, not cold brew. The market spoke loud and clear. For now. Innovation isn’t about beating your competitors. It’s about growing demand, growing the category. Together. Getting there first can be a big problem. You’re stuck holding the bag, educating a market that might not even want what you’re offering. And education is expensive. The word “competition” comes from the Latin competre: To seek TOGETHER, not against. Wallace D. Wattles said it best in The Science of Getting Rich: "You are to become a creator, not a competitor. You will get what you want in such a way that every other person will have more than they have now." Innovation is about recognising what the market wants. Then It’s about iteration, creativity, collaboration. Not battling the other brands in your space. Just look at craft beer - a category filled with 'competing' breweries collaborating with each other on beers. So, are you creating? Or are you competing? One leads to growth. The other leads to failure. #innovation #coffee #fmcg

Imagine if you could taste the world's first quality lager with the original ingredients, exactly as it was brewed in the late 18 hundreds? You can and with what I think is one of the most exciting beers in our portfolio. Some years back, employees at Carlsberg made a discovery in the old cellars under the brewery. They found an intact bottle that turned out to be one of the first Carlsberg beers brewed with the original pure yeast from 1883. Scientists from the Carlsberg Research Lab were actually able to extract living yeasts cells from the 133-year-old bottle and then using the original recipe were able to recreate the Carlsberg lager from 1883. This resulted in the Carlsberg 1883 - a lager beer with a historic taste, brewed on the same original yeast and recipe from 1883. A taste of the past, indeed and a must try beer when you are next here in Denmark... #RebrewProject #CarlsbergResearchLab #Innovation #150yearsofscience

Did you know that Carlsberg, in their pursuit of brewing better beer, invented the pH scale? With this breakthrough in 1909, Carlsberg ensured consistently great-tasting beer every time. But they didn’t stop there. They shared the pH scale with the world, not for publicity - it was 1909, after all - but because they believed that great ideas, like great beer, are meant to be shared. The bright and simple pH scale became the standard and remains a useful tool in countless fields, from education and medicine to food science and, of course, brewing. Looking back, it’s inspiring to see how Carlsberg's dedication to quality and curiosity have shaped something so impactful 🍻 #CarlsbergResearchLab #Innovation #150YearsOfScience
