Many high achievers are plagued with the habit of comparing themselves to their ideal selves, leading to constant negative thoughts, and rarely feeling like they're hitting their stride. Being negative is easy and the majority of us talk to ourselves in a negative tone and manner. We nitpick all of the things we shouldn't have done, should have done better and the way we talk to ourselves when we look in a mirror is even worse ,especially as we age all of these thoughts make you feel terrible. Today, I am honored to be a panelist for the CHPA 'Confidence to be My Best Self' event along with six other talented and successful women. As a panelist I hope to share the positive impact of frequent reflection on my successes as a woman who worked in corporate America and as the founder of Checkable. After deep reflection and coaching I realized I was constantly feelinging like I wasn't living up to the woman I wanted to be in my mind, I was comparing myself to who I wanted to be and it was dragging me down. 9 months after starting Checkable I wrote down everything I had accomplished personally and professionally, I started to remember new accomplishments as the days passed since doing the exercise, I would smile and feel proud of the woman who went for it. This is how we should feel about ourselves and our bodies, this shifts your mindset and puts in you a state of positivity and confidence. Growing and getting confidence back starts with this exercise and continues with daily relection on wins and appreciation/recognition for the losses and what they taught you for your future self.

Evidence tells us that barriers to advancement start upon entering the workforce, where young women are surprised to find that it is not an even playing field; or at their first opportunity for promotion, where their skill sets are judged differently. One third of women under the age of 35 have had their competency questioned because of their gender, and 32% of women with children at home report downplaying parental responsibilities to progress in their careers. Beyond formal mentor and sponsor roles, women reported a supportive network helped in advancing their careers. Research suggests these are essential for women leaders, who are more likely to land leadership positions and higher pay if they have an inner circle of close women contacts.* As someone who is an inspiring young leader herself, Abby Mann is a testament to the value and opportunities that mentorship can have on advancing gender equity and inspiring inclusion for the next generation of womxn leaders✊🏽 [* Unobstructed Journeys: DIsnantling barriers to gender equality in the workplace by Minerva BC ]
A rising star at DIVERSEcity, Abby Mann manages the Youth Services portfolio, helping deliver programs that inspire diverse #youth to connect with their community, develop self-confidence and learn new skills. For #InternationalWomen’sDay, we asked Abby what advice has been important to her in her leadership journey. Somehow, we’re not surprised that Abby’s answer focuses on those she helps rather than herself. “One key piece of advice I cherish is the value of #mentorship and empowering the younger generation. Training and supporting them ensures their seamless transition while embracing their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas,” Abby says. “By fostering mentorship, we contribute to a more dynamic and inclusive professional environment, recognizing that our success lies in nurturing the potential of those who will follow in our footsteps.” Learn more about DIVERSEcity’s youth programs here: https://lnkd.in/gx8dJP9x #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2024 #womenleaders #inspireinclusion #youth Neelam Sahota Abby Mann

Since our founding in 2009, ProInspire has partnered with social change leaders and organizations to help create a world where everyone can thrive. We believe that when BIPOC leaders, who are closely connected to their communities, thrive in their workplaces, they foster thriving in their organizations and communities. Our new research, Thriving Leaders and Communities, focuses on accelerating racial equity by understanding the conditions needed for BIPOC leaders, organizations and communities to thrive. We are passionate about building a future where race and other aspects of identity do not determine the success of leaders or organizations. Thriving social justice organizations are key to creating racially equitable communities where everyone flourishes! Join us at our upcoming webinar to talk more about how we can all create conditions for thriving!
Our latest research report has reinvigorated our hope for the future here at ProInspire. After interviewing 58 nonprofit senior leaders of color across 39 cities, one thing we know is true: leaders of color can and will THRIVE with the necessary conditions. Change is possible. Change is happening. And we’re so excited to share more about what we’ve learned. Despite the real and pervasive challenges faced by communities in the U.S. and globally, we have the power to nurture and invest in the path towards collective progress and transformation. 📣 Read our latest blog on the release of Thriving Leaders & Communities (TLC): Recommendations from Nonprofit Leaders of Color: https://lnkd.in/gScBVpHx ➡️ Want to learn more about our research findings and ways to cultivate thriving in your leadership? It has been an insightful few days attending Minerva BC's Inclusive Leadership Forum. I am happy to be walking away with a stronger inclusion lens for improved engagement and decision-making. A few key highlights include: ▪ Day 1: Organizational leaders have the ability to impact workplaces for the better, making them safer spaces for others to speak up. The power of inclusion will create spaces where we all thrive. ▪ Day 2: There can be many obstacles through uncertainty and change, this is when leading with authenticity is crucial. How? Building trust, fostering phycological safety and leading with shared values. ▪ Day 3: The importance is not just in creating inclusive workspace systems, but also by acting as a champion for change. Advocate for change, be willing to take action in challenging the barriers, regardless of your position. Elaine Lin Hering speaking note asked some wonderful thought-provoking questions that all leaders should be asking each time they enter a meeting. I look forward to reading "Unbreaking Silence" which dives into the pervasive influence of silence and how we can begin to dismantle it in order to use our voices.
That’s a Wrap on the 2024 Inclusive Leadership Forum! We enjoyed learning alongside Forum attendees and deeply appreciate the time and commitment over the past three days. We are grateful to the amazing speakers who shared their knowledge and passion for advancing equity. Thank you to our Forum Sponsors: Overall Sponsors: BCLC, PwC Canada, Best Buy Canada Day 3 Sponsor: Real Estate Foundation of BC Media Sponsor: #GlobalBC We are already looking forward to 2025. #IWD2024 #countherin What an honour it was to hear the lived experience of Julia Banks at our Melbourne office this week and we also heard from employees through our IWD activations. Some take aways I'd like to share: 1) Use your personal and professional power to break the system. Patriarchy is not just for men to break down. We all have a role to play in breaking the system (regardless of gender identity) 2) Be mindful of interrupting women. Stats tell us it happens a lot more to women than it does to men. 3) Male allies are so important. Many males feel left out when it comes to DEI initiatives if they don't connect with a particular DEI focus area. Yet data tells us many males want to spend more time with their families and they may feel a load placed on them because of the system. Male allies can help support women and they can be a voice for the population of men that want to take that parental leave or have that flexibility. Join your equality and families networks! We all have a role to play in inclusion and I'm proud to work for AGL where we are banding together with the Champions of Change Energy Group to break the system and help count her in.
Today, on International Women’s Day, we want to recognise all the women and men who work across our operational sites and corporate offices for helping us to accelerate progress toward a more gender equal AGL. A diverse workforce will also help to create a more inclusive energy future which has important benefits for our customers and communities in which we operate. We continue to listen and learn from each other every day. Watch some of the progress we’ve made over the past 12 months through our leadership development programs, inclusive trainings and partnerships. #IWD24 #CountHerIn #InvestInWoman #AccelerateProgress UN Women Australia Champions of Change Coalition
