Will contractors start hiring Chief Construction Officers? Last Week in ConTech we saw the emergence of a new role. John Deere is hiring for a Chief Tractor Officer paying up to $192k… The person hired will launch their TikTok channel and become the face of their social media brand. Their goal is to increase connection and awareness amongst the younger generation as farmers age out of the industry. They will capture the unique and unexpected ways that farming and construction impact everyday lives. It’s a copy from the ‘Chief Evangelist’ role startups have pioneered. In these roles a person with social media presence will be an ambassador for your startup advocating and promoting a positive message. In construction, we face many of the same issues with connection to the younger generation. Only 7% of 16-18 year olds want to join the industry. Marketing to and meeting people where they are (social media) is key. And creating engaging and attractive content is integral. Could large construction companies like Bechtel or AECOM start hiring for these roles to grow and attract a new generation of talent? There's a greenfield opportunity here.
