Focus on Communication. Shift the focus from seeking a diagnosis to actively listening to both the content and the underlying dynamics in the client's relationships. In this case , it could be easy to get distracted by the content of the argument. We could get stuck in the hurt or trust elements. While those are certainly part of it, we want to pay close attention to how clients describe the conflict. The conflict was not about whether the decision was okay or not, it was about power and whether one person can make that decision without the other and how to manage these expectations around decision making. When we listen to HOW clients are reacting to situations and one another, we can more quickly and accurately address the theme of conflict and their communication around it. What are realistic expectations here? What is acceptable? It isn't whether or not the guest should come, but rather how the partner found out. However, at what point do we allow our partner to have some more power and when do they get less? These are important questions to consider and make concrete when power dynamics arise. #communicationfocus #listeningwithintent #relationshipdynamics #diagnosisshift #emotionalintelligence #clientinsights #understandreactions #relationalpatterns #therapeuticlistening #clientcenteredcare #deepenunderstanding #emotionalexpression #empoweringchange #problemsolvingmindset #problem-solving #BTC #brieftherapycenter #problemsolvingbrieftherapy #psychology #solutionfocusedbrieftherapy #problemsolvingbrieftherapy #mribrieftherapy
