What is functional cognitive decline? Functional cognitive decline is when a person reports having memory or thinking problems but usually without the physical issues seen in other dementias. It's a new term and can range from mild memory concerns to more serious dementia. We have launched the Cognitive Health Assessment over the weekend. This is a non for profit collaborative program between the Brain & Cognition Clinic and Alzheimer's Research Australia which is a early screening program for the community. The following stats are sobering: 1. More than 1.6 million people in Australia are involved in the care of someone living with dementia. 2. Two in Three people with dementia are thought to be living in the community. 3. More than two-thirds (68.1%) of aged care residents have moderate to severe cognitive impairment.
