The Circular ♻️ Bio-based 🌱 Economy is the way to respond to climate change and resource scarcity, while contributing to economic development at the same time! This is why it is important to support it and encourage its development! But to make it happen requires joined effort among several initiatives. The Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) support projects: ➡️ contributing to replacing non-renewable fossil resources with waste and sustainably sourced biomass to produce industrial and consumer goods ➡️ aiming to accelerate the innovation process and development of bio-based innovative solutions ➡️ aiming to accelerate market deployment of the existing mature and innovative biobased solutions ➡️ carried out in close collaboration between stakeholders along the entire bio-based value chain A lot of synergy could be found with projects funded under the Horizon Europe Cluster 6: Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment. Within the CL6 funded project Biomodel4Regions, that I am coordinating, we are contributing to Circular ♻️ Bio-based 🌱 Economy by: ➡️ Supporting the development of regional/local strategies for the bioeconomy in six regions in Europe; ➡️ Developing new business models to allow consumers, industry, producers and public bodies to adopt more environmentally responsible behaviour. This will allow to create the ground for the deployment of Innovations on the Market by complementing other public funding. Synergies, networking and cooperation could really unlock the potential of the Circular ♻️ Bio-based 🌱 Economy! #circulareconomy #bioeconomy #funding
🤩 Last week Biomodel4Regions project coordinator Patrizia Circelli attended Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Info Day in #Brussels. We all know that algae holds enormous potential as a low-carbon, and almost infinite renewable resource that can support most industries to become sustainable, reduce environmental impact, and help address the climate crisis. So my question: _ Why is it that industries do not use see algae at large scale? _ Why is it that we do not see algae in our daily life? The last couple of day, the experts on algae gathered in Athens during AlgaEurope exploring innovative ways addressing the bottlenecks. My personal opinion is that one key problem is a significant gap in the algae ecosystem: producers often lack the market insights and technical understanding to meet specific industry demands, while companies seeking environmentally sound ingredients struggle to find consistent, high-quality algae sources. This disconnect hinders innovation and slows the scale-up process. That is why I founded BlueBurn. BlueBurn is here to bridge that gap. Our platform connects algae producers with industries eager to incorporate algae-based solutions, offering the information, guidance, and network support that both sides need to achieve their goals. By aligning the supply chain and ensuring transparency and traceability, BlueBurn helps unlock the true potential of algae— across all industries like food, feed, materials, and cosmetics. As the Club of Rome has famously suggested: if we truly harness nature’s renewable resources, like algae, “there would be no limit to growth” and humanity could finally live in harmony with the environment. Let’s work together to realize that vision—bringing the power of algae to the forefront and shaping a more sustainable future for us all. #eu4algae EABA - European Algae Biomass Association #abo #algae #sustainableresource #BlueBurn

📢 Excited to share that David Robert Newman FCIWM from the #EuropeanBioeconomyBureau represented Brilian at the 14th International Experts' Conference #ENVIROMANAGEMENT2024 in the stunning High Tatras, Slovakia! 🌍✨ This year’s theme, “MANAGING SOLID WASTE AND RESOURCES PROPERLY... failing to plan is planning to fail,” highlighted the complexities of waste and recycling projects. During his presentation on “Update on EU Policies – The New Europe: What the Brussels landscape is likely to look like,” among other topics, David showcased how the Brilian supports sustainable and cooperative business models in rural areas. By valorizing agricultural by-products, we aim to enhance rural development, promote biodiversity, and facilitate the transition to bio-based economies. 🌱 Through our cooperative pilots working with ten value chains, we’re turning primary producers into vital players in the supply chain, aligning with key EU strategies. Join us in our journey towards a #CircularFutureforRuralAreas! Learn more at www.brilian.eu. #BRILIAN #BRILIANProject #WasteManagement #Bioeconomy #SustainableDevelopment #CircularFutureforRuralAreas

Enabling a solid circular bioeconomy requires bold and forward-looking policies, that support in practice the defossilization of EU economy. At the same time, the #biotechact should consider all biotechnological products, from pharmaceutical to food, from agro to environmental and water sectors. Europe needs to approach the problem in a unique way, stopping the silos and the double standards approach between health biotech and all the other applications.
We keep pushing for a bold and broad Biotech Act!🦾 Together with 18 other industry stakeholders, we have sent a letter to the EU Commission Secretary General, amplifying the importance of biosolutions, including biomanufacturing, in ensuring Europe’s sustainability, competitiveness and security🔬 Therefore, we need a Biotech Act that is ambitious and cross-sectoral, enabling a multitude of agricultural, industrial, food, and environmental biosolutions to come to the market and contribute to a bio-based future in Europe🌎 Our letter luckily doesn’t stand alone. Many Member States agree, which was expressed at the Competitiveness Council meeting on 28 November by the Danish, Finnish, Dutch, French, German, Estonian, Irish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Slovak, Swedish, and Spanish delegations🎤 Let’s keep up the good work together – let’s boost biosolutions now!🌱
