'Making the transition to university teaching' is the title of Hall Houston's essay in More Than a Gap Year Adventure (https://lnkd.in/en2Wi9ve). This is an important text for those English teachers who are considering moving beyond entry-level language school roles. Hall describes how he managed to land university teaching jobs in Taiwan and Hong Kong. He talks about the benefits of working in a university setting and provides a lot of useful advice to those who would like to make progress in their career. If you've read the full essay, what did you think of it? Have you thought about moving to a university? Are there any interesting teaching opportunities in your country?

🌞 Summer is here, and new olim are already hunting for the best way to learn Hebrew. So, here's why we think a private tutor won't help you, especially with speaking: At UAB, we've found that small group settings (6-10 students) are far more effective for learning Hebrew. Why? Because small groups offer: 1. Enhanced Interaction: More opportunities to practice speaking and engage in meaningful discussions. 2. Collaborative Learning: Exposure to diverse perspectives and collective problem-solving. 3. Increased Motivation: A supportive community boosts engagement and keeps you motivated. 4. Practical Application: Role-plays and group activities simulate real-life scenarios. 5. Immediate Feedback: Get instant feedback from peers and instructors to improve faster. Don't settle for one-on-one when you can thrive in a dynamic group setting. Learn more about our approach at UAB and join us this summer. 👉 Learn More: (https://lnkd.in/dZ75N6tH

Testimonial videos are vital in building trust and connecting authentically with an audience. Check our the testimonial video we produced for the fantastic Celtic English Academy!
Black Swan Productions 🎭 Award-Winning Video Production Agency 🎬 | 2024 Wales Media & Entertainment StartUp Award 🏆
What do students care about? 🗣 I'd bet on the genuine opinions of other students. Not the corny, over-produced, scripted content we often see, but rather authentic, straight-to-the-point, honest answers. People can see through stories that lack authenticity. Working with Celtic English Academy and in partnership with AFS Global STEM Innovators, Black Swan Productions has produced testimonial videos where students share their real experiences on the program. Give it a watch. 👇

The student hailed from Norway, and I struggled to correctly pronounce her name. Despite my efforts, she kindly reassured me that many Americans have difficulty with her name as well. Throughout multiple courses together, I persistently attempted to get it right but never quite succeeded. Ensuring I accurately pronounce each student's name during class introductions is a crucial aspect of my teaching. I invite students to feel free to correct my mispronunciation both during introductions and later in the class if I mispronounce it again. With the exception of my Norwegian student, I typically manage to do so successfully. Intentionally addressing students by their names is a powerful method to establish a connection and demonstrate respect, especially at the beginning of a class. To do so, we must make the effort to learn student names, practice their names, and use those names frequently in the class. Learn more 2 live more.
