At its core, humanitarian work is about addressing the urgent needs of vulnerable populations. But when we dig deeper, many of these challenges stem from structural inequalities—longstanding systems that perpetuate disparities in access to resources, opportunities, and rights. From unequal distribution of wealth and education to systemic barriers based on gender, ethnicity, or geography, these inequities determine not only who is most affected by crises but also who has the least capacity to recover. At Bring Hope, we work to address these challenges by integrating humanitarian aid with development programs, ensuring that immediate relief is paired with long-term solutions that build resilience, self reliance and promote equity and justice: https://lnkd.in/dPuhryJU 💡 How can we create a world where humanitarian work isn’t just reactive, but truly transformative? #HumanitarianAid #SocialJustice #Equity #StructuralInequalities #GlobalImpact

🌍 Gender-Transformative Humanitarian Response 🌟 Our humanitarian partners often refer to the immediacy of the response as the main barrier to gender transformation in complex settings. However, it's evident that achieving effective and equitable impact requires a significant and explicit shift toward transformation. This study from Jacqueline Hart, Tamara K. and the Women's Refugee Commission provides a concise roadmap for how humanitarian organisations can advance gender-transformative change: 🌟 Embed a gender-transformative agenda at the core, prioritising the recruitment and development of leaders who are genuinely committed, complemented by stringent accountability frameworks. 💡 Overhaul conventional risk assessment models, marred by colonial biases. A feminist perspective on risk can pave the way for a more inclusive and empowering approach to funding and support. 🔎 Implement a rigorous, gender-transformative audit of international practices is essential to ensure principles permeate every level of operation, fostering accountability to the communities they aim to serve. 🌈 Move beyond a binary view of gender, humanitarian efforts must address and understand the full spectrum of gendered marginalisations and their profound implications. 🤝 Collaborate with civil society and state actors to identify emerging challenges and innovative solutions, coupled with extended support for programmes championing gender-transformative change, is crucial. ✊🏾 Adopt a holistic approach that integrates the humanitarian, development, and peace (HDP) nexus. The journey towards gender-transformative change is intertwined with decolonisation and anti-racism, demanding a deliberate and concerted effort to shift power. Every opportunity exists to reshape the humanitarian response ecosystem toward more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable strategies. 🌏 💪🏾 #GenderTransformation #HumanitarianInnovation #DecoloniseAid

The combination of diversity and humanitarian Diversity and humanitarianism are both important concepts that promote inclusivity, equity, and compassion in society. Diversity refers to the variety of differences among people, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, abilities, and socioeconomic status. Embracing diversity fosters a more inclusive and tolerant society where individuals are respected and valued for who they are. Humanitarianism, on the other hand, is the belief in the inherent dignity and worth of all people, and the commitment to promoting the well-being of humanity through acts of kindness, compassion, and support. Humanitarian efforts often focus on providing aid and assistance to those in need, such as refugees, disaster victims, and marginalized communities. Together, a commitment to diversity and humanitarianism can help create a more just and compassionate world where all individuals are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion, regardless of their background or circumstances.

🌟 Thrilled to Share My Latest Research Publication! 🌟 I’m proud to announce the publication of my article in a Tier 1 academic journal, focusing on the critical yet often overlooked issue of gender-based violence in refugee settings. Entitled "The refugee experience is frequently marred by pervasive gender-based violence, particularly harassment, in refugee camps," my study delves into the lived realities of women in Za’atari Camp, Jordan. Women in the camp continue to face alarming levels of verbal harassment, compounded by societal stigma, survivor blaming, and barriers to reporting incidents. Through an in-depth analysis of 409 survey responses, the study highlights: Persistent challenges in reporting and addressing harassment. Gaps in existing protection plans and response mechanisms. The resilience and coping strategies employed by women despite these barriers. This work underscores the urgent need for collective action to strengthen humanitarian policies and ensure a supportive, stigma-free environment for all women in refugee camps. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this research and supported its journey to publication. Together, we can advocate for gender-sensitive approaches to humanitarian work and create safer spaces for women everywhere.

Highly recommended read on the complex and often ignored phenomenon of statelessness in Lebanon and its drastic social, legal and economic repercussions for concerned communities and individuals. Great job to those involved: Molly, Elias and his team at Siren Associates!
Yesterday I attended a roundtable event on statelessness in Lebanon, specifically the legal complexities surrounding birth registration. I had the pleasure to present an important piece of research, commissioned by INTERSOS - Humanitarian Organization and conducted by Siren Associates through the amazing leadership of Elias Dahrouge, PhD Statelessness is a minority issue with severe repercussions for those who lack documentation or nationality. Thank you to Norwegian Refugee Council for getting experts on the subject matter together to discuss joint recommendations and hopeful draft laws in the pipeline. You can find and download the report in English and Arabic here: https://lnkd.in/d6whD_zv

To ensure that women and girls remain a priority in humanitarian action, we need to ensure that they are counted, and that we are accountable to them. Speaking at the 2024 ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment, I highlighted that: 🙋♀️ Intentional engagement with women led organizations in humanitarian planning is critical. It is unacceptable that over one third of crisis contexts have not consulted with women-led organizations in such processes. This is well within our grasp to change for the better. 🙋♀️We must set targets for funding women-led organizations - funding that invests in their capacities, enables them to engage in humanitarian planning and leadership, and enables their critical life-saving service delivery. The recently endorsed IASC definition of women-led organizations was an important step in enabling us to track whether such targets once set are met, and we must seize on this momentum to realize this fully. 🙋♀️We must fully resource and utilize Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) Working Groups as bodies that provide the platform needed to create evidence and data on the impacts of crises on women and girls, provide entry points for the engagement of women-led organizations, and ensure their voices meaningfully inform the humanitarian planning process. Let us lift up, resource, and regularize GiHA mechanisms so we can all better serve women and girls in humanitarian contexts. #genderequality #ecosochas #humanitarianaction #giha

World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on August 19th, honors humanitarian workers and calls for global solidarity. In 2024, the theme "Act for Humanity" urges individuals, communities, and nations to take tangible steps to alleviate suffering and promote peace. This year’s focus highlights the urgent need to cease attacks on civilians in conflict zones worldwide, with a special emphasis on the vital role of youth in driving change. A Call to Action The theme "Act for Humanity" serves as a powerful reminder that everyone has a role in building a compassionate world. It emphasizes not only providing aid but also advocating for systemic changes to protect vulnerable populations. Youth, in particular can play a crucial role. Their energy, creativity, and passion can drive significant change. By volunteering, raising awareness, and using digital platforms, young people can amplify humanitarian efforts and influence global conversations. The Plight of Civilians in Conflict Zones A pressing issue this year is the violence against civilians in conflict zones. Despite international laws, many civilians face attacks, displacement, and deprivation. This is a grave violation of human rights and human dignity. The 2024 theme underscores the urgency of stopping these attacks. It calls on governments, organizations, and individuals, especially youth, to prioritize the protection of civilians and demand accountability for perpetrators. Young people are encouraged to advocate for stronger international policies and accountability measures. How Youth Can Act for Humanity There are numerous ways for young people to get involved: 1. Educate and Advocate: Learn about global conflicts and their impact on civilians. Use social media and other platforms to share information and advocate for change. 2. Support Humanitarian Organizations: Volunteer with or fundraise for organizations working on the ground. 3. Engage in Policy Discussions: Participate in youth forums and engage with policymakers to encourage humanitarian-focused legislation. 4.Join Community Events: Organize or participate in events and campaigns that focus on humanitarian efforts. World Humanitarian Day 2024 is a pivotal moment to reflect on the collective responsibility to act for humanity. By focusing on the theme and emphasizing the need to stop attacks on civilians, we can work towards a future where compassion and peace prevail. Let this day inspire action and commitment, with youth leading the charge towards a more humane world. #Empower2024 #worldhumaintarianday2024 #ActForHumanity #youth #youthempowerment #youthengagement Education Above All Foundation
