🌟 Fostering Growth and Connection: Nordic Mentorship Program🌟 Yesterday, together with the Finnish Business Council, we held the mid program meetup for our joint Mentorship Program, where 25 carefully matched pairs of Mentors and Mentees work together to grow, learn, and inspire. The program, a yearly collaboration between the Nordic councils, is designed to create meaningful connections across industries and expertise and promote personal and professional development in the UAE business community. 🎤 Highlights from the Evening: Shadi Sayed, Business Development Leader at Nokia and one of our Mentors, shared Nokia's remarkable journey—from its history to its current leadership in sustainability. Amar LAZAZI, Head of Procurement at Nokia, delivered an insightful session on negotiation skills, emphasizing the importance of uncovering unstated needs to identify the true drivers in any discussion. The evening concluded with an engaging workshop where participants exchanged ideas, built trust, and strengthened their mentor-mentee relationships. 💡 Key Reflection: As one of our Mentors wisely shared: “For a mentorship program to thrive, it must be founded on trust. When a Mentee takes a leap of faith and places their trust in their Mentor, that’s when true mentorship begins to flourish.” This program is about more than professional guidance—it’s about building lasting relationships and creating a network where growth and support go hand in hand. We have chosen them from a huge number of applicants, but they have chosen us too. The transformation happening in South Africa's business landscape right now is fascinating! We've been exploring how companies are revolutionizing their approach to skills development and B-BBEE, and the results are incredible. The companies getting it right are those aligning their skills development with both B-BBEE objectives AND real business demands. Smart thinking, right? The most inspiring part? Watching mentorship programs creates tangible transformation. When organizations invest in genuine development, they're not just earning B-BBEE points - they're building tomorrow's leaders. Did you know that A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research has a Chief Mentoring Officer...? Glad to take this photo with A*star's Chief Mentor, Prof. Huck Hui Ng, at A*star's 2024 Mentorship Conference. Some points that I made at the conference: ✅ A*star should find its own way in mentoring and sustain it. They don't need to borrow a model from another organization. ✅ As a large organization with more than 6,000 employees, while it is good to have mentors. It is better for mentees to find sponsors within the organization to help them grow and advance in their careers. ✅ That mental health needs to be an area of immediate focus. I appealed to the audience to be good to each other and to look out for each other. That way those who might need a helping hand, can get the support they need. I also shared about Asia Mentors Circle as a ground up effort to nurture 100 healthcare senior leaders within the region. Despite 4 cohorts coming from different backgrounds and different companies, we have seen amazing outcomes - with leaders getting apex positions within the region, and 1 out of every 2 mentees seeing up to a multiple step promotion within 18 months after graduating the program. Having taught more than 2,000 students over the years, and mentored hundreds of mentees, I have decided to focus on Mentoring, Investment, and Teaching(MIT) in the version 2.0(2o) phase of my journey. To this end, in addition to continuing to mentor 1-to-1, I intend to focus on helping organizations like A*star build up their mentoring capacity to reach even more mentees for greater impact. It is simply an opportunity to pause, share knowledge and do better together rather than alone. This is a great satisfaction as a mentor to contribute to.
