🌏 Western Australia's Late Season Bush Fly Outbreak: A Call for Innovation and Vigilance in Pest Control 🦟 A recent article has shed light on an unusual outbreak of bush flies in Western Australia, bringing to the forefront the impact of changing climates on pest control. Typically thriving in spring and early summer, these pests have now been spotted in alarming numbers in May due to milder winter temperatures and unburied livestock dung. One cow pat alone can produce up to 3,000 maggots, contributing to this staggering increase. 🌡️ Tanya Latty, an entomologist from the University of Sydney, explains this surge is a direct result of warm, wet conditions. The implications? We need to rethink our strategies and anticipate off-season pest invasions. For businesses and homes, installing high-quality flyscreens is more crucial than ever to maintain safe and comfortable environments. Let's discuss how the flyscreen industry can innovate and rise to these emerging challenges. Very important points made in this article, and a great example of why many DIY pest control "solutions" are largely ineffective! When it comes to pests, the issue won't go away if you don't tackle the root of the problem. Killing a few pests won't stop the fact that there may very well be a larger group hiding and breeding out of sight. While some pests, such as drain flies, may have easier solutions you can try at home, others (bed bugs, cockroaches, termites, etc.) post much larger problems. For these types of infestations, it's always better to call the professionals sooner rather than later before your problem gets worse! #PestControl #Pests #PestManagement

Best Practices for Pest Control among MSMEs DO’s 1. Fit air intake points and opening windows with fly screens (mesh size No. 16mm - 1.2mm gap). 2. Where possible, fit insect electrocutes in processing areas, and these should: -Be placed away from natural light; -Be placed no more than 2.4m high; -Be fitted with a catch tray; -Be switched on permanently; -Be placed in areas free from draughts. 3. Fit external doors that completely seal off areas, and where possible, use self-closers. 4. Use plastic or air curtains on secondary doors. 5. Regularly inspect the facility for evidence of infestation by insects and/or rodents. 6. Regularly inspect the facility for the presence of birds and wild or domestic animals. 7. Inspect all raw materials deliveries for the presence of pest infestation. 8. Always keep an up-to-date site drawing clearly showing all baiting points. 9. Keep all working surfaces free from toxic pesticides. 10. Use only approved pesticides, ensuring they are properly identified and separately stored. DON’Ts 1. Avoid placing insect electrocutes directly over areas where food is exposed. 2. Avoid using open baits in processing areas. #GrowingQualityMSMEs #QualityEverywhere
