Get to know our VP Of Operations: Sean Hansen! How Did Your Career In Construction Start And How Has It Shaped Your Views Of Construction Safety? "I have been connected to construction since I was a kid, my dad was a superintendent. When I was in middle school and high school, I started getting to follow him to work now and again. That was my initial exposure to the construction industry. After college, I was looking to start my career so I fell back on my construction knowledge. I started working as a union laborer and it has evolved since then. I went from being a union laborer to a Project Engineer, then Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Field Operations Manager, Director of Construction and now I am the VP of Operations for Technical Builders. In terms of how that has shaped my views of safety: having been someone who started their career in the field getting dirty and doing the work, gives you firsthand exposure to what a safe job site feels like and what a job site that's not safe feels like. It's a significant and impactful difference. So I have always strived, since the beginning, to create job site environments that allow people to feel safe. And when your workers and team feel safe on the job site, that's when you get the best from them. I think that my firsthand experience is what has shaped my perspective on safety. Meet Superintendent, Sean Timoney! "Don't sweat the small stuff" is a quote that sticks with Sean through his career... "Early on in my career, I became fixated with everything needing to be perfect. That was fine of course when I was working by myself or with a small crew. As I grew and became a foreman, so did my crew size and project scales. I went from managing 5-10 people to managing 20, then 50, then 100. I could not have handled this transition without taking a step back and not trying to control every detail and trivial thing. This change allowed me to focus on the big picture and trust people.  When we look back at things with the perspective of time passed and wisdom, most of it ended up being small stuff." Meet Lindsey Wing 👋, site safety manager based in Pasadena, Texas! Q: How long have you been with Turner Industries? A: I have been with Turner for 15 years. Q: What Department/Division do you work in? A: I work in the Safety Department for Turner's Maintenance and Turnaround Division. Q: If you started out in a different position, describe your journey to your current position. A: I started working for Turner Industries on November 4, 2008, at the Shell Deer Park site as a safety administrator and assisted with maintenance, capital projects, and the turnaround activity. Following the completion of my CSST course, I was given the opportunity to conduct field audits with safety personnel. From there, I worked my way into a safety technician role and finally to my current position as site safety manager at Kuraray Eval in Pasadena, Texas. Q: What attracted you to Turner Industries? A: I first heard about Turner Industries through a family member who worked at the Shell Deer Park site. She informed me about a position that was available and the opportunities for growth from that position. Q: What advice would you give women interested in beginning a career in the heavy industry? A: I have a quote in my office, and it's the first thing I see when I sit in my chair. "She believed she could, so she did." and I added, "She still is." Learn all you can because once you learn something, it gives you knowledge. Once you gain knowledge, no one can take it away from you. Knowledge is power.
