Back up your claims with numbers and statistics. It's one thing to say you helped your previous employer increase their revenue. It's another to share that you helped them increase their revenue by 50%. Including quantifiable data helps a hiring manager have a better idea of your previous accomplishments. Try to be as specific as possible when discussing your previous successes.

Most candidates: “I have experience of {specific technical work} on {specific technical platform}.” Standout candidates: “I used my {specific skill} to deliver {specific business outcome} resulting in {quantifiable business benefit} for {area of business}.” How you present yourself as a candidate makes a huge difference. The problem is, it’s not always clear how to effectively position yourself to the market. As a result, most stick to focusing on experience and technical skills. But this can often mean you’re selling your capabilities short. The best candidates position themselves not in terms of their experience, but in terms of their impact. It’s not just about what you’ve done in the past and who you’ve worked for. It’s about what you achieved for those organisations, and what you can help other organisations achieve next. If you’re a data professional and you want advice on how to position yourself to the market, get in touch. We’re always happy to help.

IPAC is hosting a second webinar on job analysis! What to Do After the Job Analysis - Good Data, Bad Data, Ugly Data. March 26, 2024 at 12:00 PM EST. Session Description: This webinar will focus on primarily on issues that may arise from job analysis data collection and how to potentially address them. Such issues might include having gaps in data where major work duties “fell out”, or perhaps an outlier incumbent is driving ratings in a direction inconsistent with other incumbents. We will address issues related to the collection of data that can result in positive or negative outcomes and how to apply job analysis results to subsequent screening and assessment. Hopefully, participants will come away from the webinar with a stronger understanding of how to avoid pitfalls when job analysis data is questionable and concerning. The presenters are the good folks at the Personnel Board of Jefferson County and have tons of applied job analysis experience! For more information and online registration: https://lnkd.in/gziBzZ6W
