This is an example of a long predicted evolution, with the battle against obsolescence being fought with 3D printers. Unfortunately, microchips and print plates are amongst the most vulnerable pieces of video and audio playback equipment and 3D printing is unable to cater for those. Also, I wonder whether these scanning, designing, printing and finishing activities require the investment of being done autonomously, or if the size of the specific technical investment and the still rather rare use cases could justify outsourcing all this as well...?
