It's truly heartening to witness our team actively participating in #redshirtday for Accessibility Awareness Week as we draw to a close to Mental Awareness Month, I wanted to share a personal story that may resonate with other female working moms and leaders. Reflecting on a past encounter, during my first pregnancy, a female executive shared a poignant insight with me: 'Diane, you can never have it all. Once you become a mom, one aspect of your life triangle will inevitably suffer every day— whether it's your career, your parenting, or your relationships.' Over time, I've observed countless mothers and women silently grappling with the repercussions: fractured marriages, feelings of guilt, and the weight of missed milestones such as a child's birthday or a child's crucial playoff game.
As a mother to three young ones and a primary caregiver to a grandmother, I've embraced the pursuit of work-life balance, carving out precious time for myself to indulge in activities I hold dear—lately, it's been running, skiing/snowboarding, and relishing quality moments with my little ones through play and genuine presence. This deliberate choice to prioritize self-care and maintain a clear boundary between work and personal life has been transformative. It's empowered me to approach each workday with laser focus and joy, while enriching my roles as a busy mom, wife, partner, coach, caregiver, friend, colleague and leader. Understanding your 'why' lays the foundation for everything else to fall into place and can truly make each day purposeful, successful and as my daughters would say packed with unicorn, rainbow, and Elsa super powers!
