Broad River Electric Cooperative’s Post

On March 25, 1940, farmers and merchants from Cherokee, Union, and Spartanburg counties gathered at the Cherokee County Courthouse with a vision: to finally gain access to electricity in their rural communities. Guided by county agents and the Rural Electrification Administration, a member-owned electric cooperative was formed. Broad River Electric Cooperative was incorporated in June of 1940. By October of the following year, new co-op lines were energized by a substation on Pacolet Highway in Cherokee County, extending service into rural areas of Union and Spartanburg Counties. From humble beginnings to a vast network of 2,750 miles of power lines and over 21,200 members, Broad River Electric Cooperative is a testament to community collaboration and forward-thinking leadership. Here’s to the legacy of power and progress! ⚡️ Read more about our story here: https://lnkd.in/eSzjRXTf
