Have you seen the musical "42 Balloons" ? I went to the theatre last Friday to see the musical "42 Balloons," based on a true story from 1982. The production was not only moving but also delivered a powerful message about the pursuit of goals. The story centres on a protagonist driven to achieve a daunting objective. Having achieved his goal, and with no other purpose than achievement he is left with the task of paying off a great loan, through interviews telling his tale. The essence lies in understanding why we chase these dreams; is it for personal fulfilment, benefiting loved ones, or impacting our community. Without a clear purpose, achieving a goal might leave us feeling empty. The musical prompts a reflection on our motivations and the deeper implications of our ambitions. Leaving the theatre, I found myself reassessing my own goals and their underlying reasons. "42 Balloons" is an excellent blend of entertainment and existential inquiry, ideal for those who seek thought-provoking content. What theatre shows have you seen which have inspired you? #inspiring #motivational #entertaining #personalgrowth

"Stormy Weather" This great creative musical, which premiered on July 21, 1943, showcased an all African-American cast, including Lena Horne, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, and Cab Calloway. The plot is a conventional Hollywood boy meets girl; boy loses girl; boy finds girl affair. In addition, the movie, produced by white studio executives, suffers from some racial stereotyping. After all, it was produced during a time of considerable racial intolerance. The fact the movie was produced at all is remarkable. But the musical numbers are pure joy. You can watch the whole movie at no cost and enjoy such great songs as "Ain't Misbehavin", "I Can't Give You Anything but Love, Baby" and, of course, "Stormy Weather" at the link. As the website 4 Star Films observes, "Stormy Weather takes ... a vast collection of talent from vaudeville and Broadway to Hollywood and lets it shine. Despite its share of flaws, what remains is a phenomenal array of artists, performers, and visionaries. Stormy Weather is an important remembrance and historical document, lest we forget how diverse and rich American culture really is." The Library of Congress selected "Stormy Weather" for preservation in the National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Creativity happens every day. There will always be obstacles, like prejudice and ignorance, and your efforts may not result in perfection, but never allow these to stop you from acting creatively. https://lnkd.in/eBU985vV

How does social media influence the theatre industry? This question has been on my mind for years. Honestly. Since I downloaded TikTok in 2018, I've been fascinated by how musical theatre thrives on the platform. Being the nerd that I am, I studied the trends and culture, and wrote a book about it. Here's a snippet of what my book is about: https://lnkd.in/gVA23jdd

We are going to talk about Ken. Well, Ryan Gosling really :) Is Ryan a well known musical artist? A great singer? Someone who movie directors instantly think of when they need an actor for their latest musical? I think the answer to all of these questions is a resounding "NO" But he did something this past weekend at the Oscars that I think was awesome. Not his singing, but that wasn't bad, but his perspective and attitude was amazing. You see, he saw an opportunity open before him, and he decided to "shoot his shot"; to go for it, in a big way. Succeed or fail, people would remember his performance; he didn't hold anything back. It was refreshing to be honest. I want to encourage you in your next opportunity, no matter if it is something you don't feel qualified for or ready to execute on, that you "shoot your shot". Have a "I am going to go big or go home" attitude, that they will remember you long after the project/event/interview is over. Go for it and don't hold back! #barbiemovie #goforit #interviewprep #collegestudents #collegegraduates
