I attended my first-ever SailGP event this past weekend in NYC with ROLEX. I was blown away by what I saw and experienced. We are talking about a series that races catamarans at 100kph, with no brakes, no fuel (powered by nature - which is also their slogan), six crew members who constantly have to change sides on the boat during the race and there are no less than 38 Olympic medals across the crew. It's a spectacle on and off the water. First, it's a relatively new racing series (2018) in its 4th season. There are ten teams with six crew members on each team - some with slightly larger rosters. Each team has at least one woman aboard (not mandated) but it is a co-ed series which is already proving to be incredibly relevant and useful. Boats may not know if it's a man or a woman onboard, but the athletes sure can tell if something is built and designed with them in mind. Secondly, similarly to F1, both data and aerodynamics play a huge role in this series. There are 125 sensors creating 35,000 data points per second, per boat (the F50). Unlike F1, the data is available to all the teams (they just need to know what to look and ask for). They can ask for detailed and in-depth reports on, for example, how their team did compared to another which can be a unique report for their eyes only. Also, fans can have access to all the data. The boats don't actually race on the water, rather they glide 1.4m in the air using hydrofoils, ultimately racing at four times the speed of the wind. Thirdly, currently, the teams race under a national flag, with two teams having title sponsors - the Emirates Great Britain team and Rockwool Denmark. I wonder if this will change as the sport gets more popular and more sponsors enter this space. One thing that probably won't change though is the fact that this is a spec series (unlike the America's Cup) - all the F50s are built and provided by the series. Every team is racing the same boat, using the same gear and software - it all comes down to talent, tactics and strategy. I spent some time inside the Oracle insights tech hub and with the SailGP tech team to get a better understanding of the data points and what the teams are looking at. I spent some time with Hannah Mills, the most successful female sailor in Olympic history and a member of the Emirates Great Britain team. And I also got to go on a 'chase' boat' watching the race from what can only be described as a 'front row seat to the action'. This isn't sailing. This is high-speed racing. And these aren't sailors, but rather high-caliber athletes and it's absolutely incredible to watch. Race weekend debrief here - https://lnkd.in/gPKtmWvW

Reflecting on the 2015 Bikernieki Summer Race: A Unique Experience in Baltic Motorsports Attending the 2015 Bikernieki Summer Race in Riga, Latvia was a fascinating experience that highlighted the distinct differences between Baltic racing and short track racing in the USA. The Bikernieki Circuit, with its technical corners and elevation changes, offers a complex challenge for drivers that contrasts with the often more straightforward and oval tracks typical of American short track racing. The Baltic Touring Car Series (BTC) showcased a diverse range of vehicles and racing styles that are less common in the U.S. but equally thrilling. The circuit's location near housing projects and the skyline of Riga adds a unique backdrop to the event. The area surrounding the track features Soviet-era architecture and housing complexes, creating a stark contrast to the more polished environments often seen in U.S. racing circuits. The juxtaposition of the gritty, industrial backdrop with the high-energy racing creates a distinctive atmosphere that’s both raw and captivating. This blend of racing excitement and historical urban landscape offers a unique cultural experience, highlighting the differences and rich diversity in motorsport environments around the world. #Motorsports #Bikernieki #BalticTouringCars #Racing #MotorsportEvents #TouringCars #Latvia #RacingLife #RaceTrack #MotorsportCulture #EuropeanRacing #SovietEra #UrbanBackdrop #ShortTrackRacing #MotorsportHistory #RaceDay

🇱🇻 Latvia 🇱🇻🛫 --> 🛬🇫🇮 Finland 🇫🇮 🌍 World Rally Championship proposes these mythical fast gravel roads for the last high speed rally of the season 🚀🌲! It's rally week and what a better place than the 73rd edition of rally Finland for a summer break?! 😎 Well the probability to hold an umbrella ☔ for few days is there but there are plenty to discover, see, hear and feel in this North European country. Lakes, long summer days 🌄, cold winters❄️, forests, nothern culture and... it is a pilar of rally history 💪🏻. Rare would be a rally season without WRC appearance of a Finnish crew. To be the fastest on these gravel roads, it needs some specific driving inputs, team experience and few other things 🛠️🚗. Jumps are making flying 🛫 the rally cars through the forests. Landings reveal the art of vertical load absorption. Dampers and the car "flight control" are developed to their best. Then despite the high speed 💨, it is not fully straight and steering precision gets quite important and that won't come only from steering system itself 🛠️. Overall it says that you can hardly fight with a "chewing-gum" chassis on the start line. 🌡️Heat might not be a topic to focus for too long there but aero, braking, revs limiter, gear shifts and few other fields are to masterized to launch the rocket properly. Since we last looked at the "numbers", WRC decided to keep hybrid unit for a while 🔋👍🏻. Perhaps its usage can still evolve to be closer to serial industry usage but it is also not dramatic to use the tool for different targets between racing and road cars sold to people. Promotion is good 😉. WRC still has plenty to give and show. Other rally series are good too (national and international ones). Rally remains a good sport to push the limits with a similar looking car than your own road cars. Last WRC event took place in Latvia 🇱🇻 and that was a fast pace land. Here below are few lines drawn from Rally1 split times sent by few mad crews in strong chassis. 🗓️2025 calendar offers some new places compared to 2024. The mix of surfaces remains similar but the ride promises to be good. #HighSpeed #WRC #Gravel #Rallies 🇵🇱🇱🇻🇫🇮 #Finnish #Rollercoaster
