⚠ 1 DAY LEFT ⚠ There is one day left to respond to the consultation on the Government's draft guidance for schools on gender questioning students. Schools need practical guidance about supporting trans and gender questioning pupils to ensure they are able to support all students to thrive. The draft guidance does not do that. There is no evidence that TGQ children present a risk to other children; that most children feel threatened by or concerned about their peers who are TGQ; or that the presence of a child who is TGQ impacts those around them. Brook wants to see all young people being recognised, celebrated and supported. For this to be a reality, schools need guidance that is young person-centred, evidence-based and draws on the expertise of teachers who are already successfully supporting and safeguarding trans students. RSHE can play an important role in normalising this diversity and ensuring that no pupil feels pressured into an identity, gender expression or sexuality that is not authentic for them. We urge as many people as possible to respond to the consultation before 11.59pm on 12 March to help shape a resource for schools that is both practical and respectful. We recommend looking at the guidance from Stonewall and Allsorts Youth Project for more detailed information on how to respond. https://lnkd.in/eTtfwqds

It has been fascinating to work with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Boys Achievement to co-construct the findings from Headteachers and school leaders on closing the gender gap. Looking forward to the webinar tonight to discuss the details of how each school worked (unknowingly) to the common principles for success in in each of our different contexts. https://lnkd.in/d8QxKKXy

How Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence Undermine Children’s Education and Future Opportunities! In many parts of the world, children face not only the challenge of accessing education but also the harsh reality of living in environments plagued by gender-based violence (GBV) and domestic violence (DV). These traumatic experiences don’t just disrupt their schooling; they cast long shadows over their entire lives, perpetuating cycles of inequality and abuse normalisation. GBV and DV create hostile home environments where children’s sense of safety and stability is shattered. The fear and trauma they endure often manifest as anxiety, depression, and behavioural issues, making it difficult for them to concentrate and learn in school. As a result, their academic performance suffers, and they may eventually drop out altogether, further limiting their future opportunities. Growing up in environments marked by violence increases the likelihood of mental health struggles, substance abuse, and involvement in criminal activities. These factors can hinder their ability to secure employment, maintain healthy relationships, and break free from the cycle of abuse. Will you sign our petition https://lnkd.in/gH72xpBV to mandate the teaching of gender equality in our Australian Curriculum to help eradicate this epidemic? Let’s stand together to protect our children, nurture their potential, and build a world where every child can thrive. #educaciondiversa #educateforequality #BreakTheCycle #EndGBV #EducationForAll

"Almost daily, we seem to be losing traction on a slippery slope greased with fear – fear that children need to be protected from current realities that maybe have been hidden, or just not talked about in the past. It could be understanding the implications of race and diversity, the complexities of our history, gender identity, or even valuing the ability to self-reflect and regulate." Breaking barriers with compassion and education: Scotland unveils a groundbreaking framework to combat sexism and gender-based violence in schools. Developed by a working group co-chaired by the The Scottish Government, RAPE CRISIS SCOTLAND and Zero Tolerance Scotland, this framework reflects the voices of young people and staff. At its core, the framework emphasises using education to challenge societal norms that perpetuate gender-based violence, with a focus on compassion. It aims to support schools by: - Demonstrating the myriad ways gender-based violence affects young people and empowering schools to challenge underlying gender inequalities. - Providing crucial guidance for schools to effectively respond to gender-based violence experienced by students, staff, or any member of the school community. - Outlining a systematic approach for schools to record gender-based violence behaviours and offering pathways for further support and learning. At Beyond Equality, our schools work does this by working with boys as well as staff to embrace the whole school approach. 📩 www.beyondequality.org https://lnkd.in/e-_-t4_S #EndGBV #EqualityInEducation

Last night we spoke about ‘adultification’ and how it is impacting the wellbeing and self esteem of many of our beneficiaries. The systemic biases that unconsciously exist in many schools are putting vulnerable girls and young people, from black and ethnic minority groups, at an even greater disadvantage. We concluded that more parent engagement with schools is paramount and schools would benefit from developing their cultural competence in order to challenge stereotypes and gender, race and adultification biases. Only 49% of countries have achieved gender parity in primary education. At the secondary level, the gap widens. Just 42% of countries have achieved gender parity in lower secondary education, and only 24% have done so in upper secondary education. #7 on the list of the 50 most sexist laws in the world, compiled by the UN https://buff.ly/48bEHlB

DID YOU KNOW? According to a 2016 Gender Review, in most countries, women with higher levels of education are less likely to have undergone Female Genital Mutilation/Circumcision. As educating communities raises questions against such harmful practice. Again, ‘Education’ is a vital tool in ending all forms of violence and abuse in a society. We must not stop until every girl has access to quality education, is empowered to grow and contribute to issues that affect her. As well as protected from harmful practices that threaten her well being! #didyouknow #education #EndFGM #SteerInitiative
