The technological transformation of nursing education - how Elsevier supports the training of nurses. Critical to setting students up for career success as health professionals is the curriculum to prepare nurses for the licensure exam, the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). “When our faculty looked at our NCLEX-RN pass rates, they hovered between 86-92 percent. They identified it as a major gap in our program outcomes. Our graduate performance did not match the academic potential of our students,” says Dr Anna McDaniel, dean of the University of Florida’s College of Nursing. To increase the student NCLEX-RN pass rate, McDaniel and her team began working with Elsevier, an information and analytics provider which is part of RELX, to implement HESI, a review and testing solution that helps students stay on track with their test preparation. The University of Florida had already leveraged HESI in its legacy curriculum for mid-curricular and program exit assessments but saw its full adoption as the potential answer to their problem. The University of Florida College of Nursing improved its annual pass rate to 96 percent, representing a 4 to 10 percentage point increase year over year... #ElsevierLife #nursingeducation #nurses #elsevier #HESI #healthcare #Elsevierhealth

A recent post from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) sheds light on a concerning issue for American healthcare. The number of students enrolled, “…in entry-level baccalaureate nursing programs decreased by 1.4% last year, ending a 20-year period of enrollment growth in programs designed to prepare new registered nurses (RNs).” (AACN, 2023). Overall, there is a decrease in enrollment for all pre-licensure education programs. In data reported in 2022, 100,000 nurses left the nursing profession during the pandemic. In a time when we need to gain in the number of nurses each year to keep pace with the needs of American healthcare this too is a worrying development. The combination of decreased enrollments in BSN programs and nurses leaving the profession prematurely is a worrisome development. It is too early to tell if these are meaningful trends, but these events should have the attention of stakeholders in American healthcare. Nurses are the largest group of providers in our healthcare system. A prolonged shortfall of nurses decreases the capacity of our healthcare system. Reference: McElroy, A. (2023, September 7). New data show enrollment declines in schools of nursing, raising concerns about the nation’s nursing workforce. AACN. https://lnkd.in/g-Ftxetd Attribution: Public Domain

Dear Nursing Students 2. Dear Nursing Students, it is important to understand that nursing is not an end but a means to an end. My decision to study nursing was never solely about money, even though it was something I considered too. My decision to study nursing was fueled by a deep desire to relate to people in their most primitive state, offer my expertise, and provide holistic care. We live in a community where pursuing professional courses like nursing is like getting wealthy, and many young people feel pressured to choose a professional path, even against their will. It is now a common saying that a nursing degree is a ticket to a world of luxury. Well, it is, if you look beyond the 'not so financially rewarding' aspect of nursing. There are many entrancing and interesting aspects aside from bedside nursing. There are a lot of new ways that new technology is being infused into the nursing profession, which gives an even larger array of choices to choose from. Dear Nursing Students, more than the financial reward, don't forget your passion. If you are already in the profession because you were coaxed in one way or another, please find a way to build passion because the journey doesn't get easy as it goes. The journey from preparing to become a professional and then working towards mastery and growth after is nothing compared to the financial rewards, and that is why it is important to be passionate. Dear nursing students, If you study nursing for the passion, you'll undoubtedly find a sense of fulfillment. Dear Nursing Students, What inspired you to pursue nursing, and how do you stay connected to your passion? Feel free to reach out if you need help or guidance. There's a long list of nurse mentors on this platform ready to assist you. #nursesonlinkedin #nursing

Founder & CEO of KAM Resources, LLC | Higher Ed Recruitment Services | Transformational Leader | Empowering the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals
Many universities in the United States have launched fast-track nursing programs in which nursing students will be "ready" to tackle the nursing field in just 12 months. Many see this approach as a "win-win," but I have some mixed opinions on this. Traditional education programs are two to four years of coursework and training before nurses are released into their professional careers. One year is inadequate to prepare these individuals for the rigorous nursing field. In addition, individuals do not have to have a background in healthcare but must have a bachelor's degree. At the same time, I see the mission: to get more nurses in the field in shorter amounts of time. But is one year enough? #NurseShortage #HigherEducation #NurseEducation
