Have you ever tried to juggle 5 jobs at once while balancing a cup of hot coffee on your head? 🤹♂️☕️ No? Well, welcome to the world of working as a supplier in the automotive industry. I realize my intro does not make it sound very appealing but hear me out because I don't think I could have been successful without this experience. I started my career at a Tier 1 automotive supplier providing interior components to the group formally known as the Big 3. I look back on my time as an engineer there and realize I learned more in those 5 years of my career than the rest of it combined. Teams were small and that meant there was a lot of opportunity to get your hands dirty in just about every aspect of the business. So many valuable lessons and helpful skills, I learned to weld, how to drive a forklift...kind of, how to wire electrical equipment (turns out red/green color blindness is not helpful here), and supervised my first shift on Friday night when no one else was available at the age of 20 😬 I not only learned more but I formed lifelong friendships. Doing hard things can be rewarding. Doing hard things together with people you care about creates an incredible bond. If you are looking to learn, develop skills, make lifelong friends, and earn a good living, there is a lot of opportunity in all of the manufacturing facilities you see with now hiring signs. #WorkCulture #ManagementTips #Expectations

💡 Every team is made of PEOPLE! 🤔 But what about the technician shortage?… It’s a topic we all know about. The automotive technician shortage. Why is it happening? How bad is it? What can anyone do to turn the tide? Difficult questions. Hard to reach answers. Well I set out to try and gain some insights as to why our industry is struggling to recruit and retain its valuable trained technicians. I started with interviews of automotive industry experts in positions ranging from service managers, to fixed operations directors, to shop foremans, and even a professor of automotive technology management. I then structured a survey based on the questions and answers I document from my 11 industry expert interviews and asked my social media community to take it. 804 automotive industry professionals voluntarily weighed in over the next 13 days. I spent weeks analyzing the data, breaking it down, quantifying and making sense of it all. The end product is this robust white paper; my Needs Analysis Summary: Technican Training.
