So I am always talking about following your passions but something I was pondering on today is that I have been in the wedding and industry for over a year and have gained some pretty good insight and advice along the way but have never shared it. So if you are passionate about weddings and events here's my top tips to get into it.. 💍Apply for a job within an event company or at a venue and go for anything you can (Bar, Reception, Breakfast, Venue styling etc.) - with this you learn the venue / the industry inside and out. 💍 Once you know your role think of all the ways you can make it better and little by little implement things until the role is reframed. 💍Help other departments and figure out what you like about each of them and what your good at 💍Move up in your department, keep track of all you have achieved and your appraisals and then aks to be part of your dream department once you have proven what you can do. Working in weddings really is very rewarding job and is relatively easy to get in to if you have the passion, drive and determination but you have to have those 3... Let's be real here, it's not only about the wedded couple or the client, its also about the guests 💞 Most weddings and events are memorable for BOTH the client and the people attending because everyone's needs were met, whether that be through delicious cuisine, unforgettable entertainment or even a unique learning experience or tradition. It’s me again!! 🙋♂️ (<- Dan) Freed from the constraints of my real work I am BACK to smash together a selection of words, punctuation marks and emojis to help you procrastinate and waste a little time on #LinkedIn!! 😉 I’d like to kick things off with a #confession… So, I work for Penta right, which means I work in the #hotelindustry. ✔ Now, before working at #Penta, I had zero work experience within the hotel industry. BEFORE YOU ASK, yes, I guess they must have been desperate. 😁 Also, my glasses and accent make people think I’m more intelligent than I actually am. 🤓 In fact, my lenses are pretty weak, and my real accent makes me sound like a farmer, so to anyone involved in hiring me – sorry, but you got HUSTLED. 🤷♂️ Anyway, I’m getting off track and that’s not even the confession… Coming from a career background of REDACTED (definitely didn’t put that in there in a lame attempt to seem mysterious) I rather shamefully know quite little about the #hotel and hospitality industry (𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣). SO, I thought, why not use this month’s column as an opportunity to do some #LEARNING. 🤗 INTERNET FRIENDS, I present to you: 👉 𝘼 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙛 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙡 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚… 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗥: You shouldn’t expect to actually learn something here, I’ve already wasted over half of my permitted character count (plus I already told you about the glasses and accent). ❌ Let’s go back, way back. 🔙 In the beginning there were campfires and caves. That’s right, the first #hotelier was almost certainly someone with a big fire or a big cave, or at least someone generous with a fire or a cave, maybe it was small, I don’t know, I wasn’t there. 😊 Next up we have the ancient civilisations. This is where we see stuff like #Bathhouses begin to pop up. In fact, what is recognised as the oldest hotel in the world is from 705 A.D, that’s 1319 years ago!! 😲 Koshu Nishiyama Hot Spring, Keiunkan is not too far from Mt Fuji in #Japan and incredibly it was run by 52 generations of the same family until fairly recently, which I think is what that TV show Succession that everyone went crazy for is about ❓ Somewhere around the 15th Century, laws in #France and #England changed and Inn Keepers started having to keep a register of their #guests, pulling us sort of a bit more in the direction of what we know today. 📑 After that basically loads of stuff happened, like time moved on, things got developed and word counts were invented. 😅 Really, you could even argue that the next most significant landmark is that #Penta was formed in 1971, because that means that I got a job, which means that I have money to pay rent and buy crisps (you didn’t really think we’d get through a whole column without me bringing them up did you??). 😎 #dansview #pentahotels #pentalovesyou #hospitality #teamspirit

I said this to one of my newly joined interns when he asked me why I started with ikigaii planners and focused more on wedding events than other entertainment events. My answer was simple👇 I thrive on the emotional rollercoaster of weddings. The feeling of: Peace and Passion Fear and Fulfillment Chaos and Compassion Management and Madness Drama and Delight, All blended well in weddings is what keep me sane! From grand Indian weddings to royal palace ceremonies, intimate beachside vows, and expansive open-space celebrations, I’ve experienced it all. My team at ikigaii planners calls me '𝘔𝘢𝘯 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘺' who loves Jalebi 😄 (that's true, haha) Super thanks to my life and business partner Heeital Chandulal Rathod (Hetal Rathod) perfectly balances my crazy overflowing ideas and execution along with me. It's about showcasing the product's effectiveness, not perpetuating stereotypes. However, there's indeed an intriguing learning curve in how we communicate these messages. In the wellness industry, for instance, the prevailing imagery often includes people practicing yoga, or those with conventionally beautiful bodies receiving a massage. But true wellness is about reflecting a state of balance, serenity, calm, and joy, which can be embodied by any individual, regardless of their body type. Your observation is a critical reminder that while we often discuss equality in terms of salary, benefits, and career opportunities, we must also be mindful of how we portray and perceive potential employees. Skills and experience should always take precedence over one's physical appearance, color, race, religion, sexual orientation, and other personal attributes. I have noticed this ad for a job opening recently and, while I like the layout, picture, color scheme etc, I feel there is something wrong here. Why are we using pictures of beautiful people when looking for staff? What if I don't look like this young lady in the picture but I have the skills and experience because I worked very hard in my life to acquire them? Why another employer/hotel can give me the opportunity and this no? We are often talking about equality in salary, benefits, career progression and job opportunities, but why am I possibly being judged based on my body, color, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc, etc? Reflecting on the profound impact of everyday interactions. Years ago, as a front desk manager at a newly opened resort, a simple act of kindness led to a life-changing moment. A woman with her infant son approached me, asking to see a guest room. Little did I know, she was the Associate Director in our company’s regional sales office, who would soon be returning to work from maternity leave. Since the resort had opened during her leave, she hadn't been able to attend the resort tours for her team. I felt compelled to give her a full tour, and we ended up spending over an hour exploring the resort together. Her gratitude was overwhelming at the end of our impromptu tour. Months later, after she had returned to work, she approached me at the desk. Remembering our earlier encounter, she thanked me again for the tour, but then asked me a surprising question: had I ever considered a career in group sales? That moment marked the beginning of an incredible journey. A short while later she became the Director of Sales in our regional sales office, and after working in that office as a Group Sales Manager for a few years, I advanced to Associate Director of Sales. Our office became a tight-knit team, many of whom I still call friends today. She remains my mentor, and though our paths diverged as we took on different leadership roles (and eventually we both chose to go back into individual contributor roles to focus more on our families), I will always cherish the years we worked together as some of the best in my career. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: you never know where your next interaction could take you.
