A civilized society should feed its children. Children generally cannot earn money or make choices about basic resources, including nutritional goods. Providing our community’s children with equal access to food promotes a healthier and more inclusive society for all. Particularly when our children gather for collective meal times at places like school. “Access to school meals plays a crucial role in reducing childhood hunger, supporting good nutrition and ensuring students are ready to focus and learn. Research has long linked participation in school meal programs to positive educational and health outcomes including improved academic achievement, attendance and behavior at school; decreased childhood food insecurity; consumption of more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and milk; and fewer visits among youth to the school nurse.” #FeedTheChildren #WeAreWhatWeEat
Providing school meals to all students at no charge increased lunch participation in the five states that offer universal school meals, and raised breakfast participation rates in four of those during the 2022–2023 school year, according to a report released by the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC). The response to Healthy School Meals for All policies has been largely positive, the report notes, with state child nutrition agencies declaring benefits to providing school meals at no cost to all families, and public opinion polling shows broad support. However, with more student participation comes a need for more resources and staffing within a school district’s nutrition services department, which has proven difficult to meet, according to school food service directors in California who participated in a separate survey conducted by the CALIFORNIA SCHOOL NUTRITION ASSOCIATION INC and the Chef Ann Foundation in partnership with Food Insight Group. Listen into this crucial conversation on non-patient specific epinephrine auto-injectors in public places with Senator Gounardes, Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal , Bay Ridge High Schooler Lucia Zaremba, Allergy Advocates NY Co-Founder @Jon Terry, Elijah-Alavi Foundation Co-Founder Thomas Silvera, MSHS-PH , CST ( Doctoral Candidate) Silvera, and FARE’s Senior Vice President, Advocacy Jason Linde. Food allergies can be life-threatening, and rapid access to epinephrine during an allergic reaction is vital. Our goal is to raise awareness about the importance of having non-patient specific epinephrine auto-injectors readily available in public spaces, especially near AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). What we know to be true: The presence of non-patient specific auto-injectors in public places can save lives during critical moments when individuals experience severe allergic reactions. Emphasizing the need for non-patient specific epinephrine auto-injectors ensures that immediate help is available even when the individual experiencing an allergic reaction doesn't have a prescribed epinephrine on hand. Advocating for the placement of non-specific epinephrine auto-injectors in public places that this life saving medication is accessible in case of emergencies. We invite you to be a part of this important conversation by watching the video and sharing your thoughts. Let's work together to create a safer environment for everyone, especially those with allergies. https://lnkd.in/gPq_Bt_m
