Less than 3 weeks to go before my metal is truly tested, heading up the 3 highest peaks in the UK as part of the Altumate Challenge. Altum Group As some of you may know, I'll be raising money for Campaign Against Living Miserably. CALM are a small charity, but tackling a big problem in the UK, with over 1 in 4 people struggling with mental health. In 2023, the CALM helpline had over 160,000 conversations with people who were struggling - that’s one conversation every 59 seconds. But sadly, it’s still not enough - They’re receiving over 27,000 calls and chats to the helpline every month, that’s a 94% increase since 2019. - Helpline calls have increased in complexity and length wise, are now 150% longer than in previous years. - In 2023 and 2024, they saw a rise in the number of people calling about money worries due to the cost-of-living crisis, and this trend is expected to continue. To give you an idea of how every pound helps: - £6 could help CALM provide a family with suicide bereavement support - £12.20 could help fund one potentially life-saving call on the CALM helpline - £26 could help CALM fund 50 potentially life-saving conversations via WhatsApp - £154 could help CALM provide specialist and topical training to a helpline worker - £181 could help CALM fund a helpline worker for a day - £270 could help CALM create information guides to help people deal with whatever they're facing At just over halfway there, thanks to some incredibly generous people.
