What does the new schools bill mean for admissions? Sections 47 to 50 of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill aims to enhance cooperation between schools, including academies, and local authorities (LAs) in England regarding admissions and place planning. They aim to do this by giving LAs more influence over admission to schools for whom they are not the ‘admission authority’ - in particular, academies. Our Legal Director in the education team, Joanna Goddard, explores the key points in these Sections below. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4fXgRO6 #Schools #Academies #SchoolAdmissions

Update: DFE Sign-in There’s been a recent change within the DFE Sign-in about the new Check a Teacher’s Record service. Here’s some information to help: The service searches the same records as Employer Access, including teachers and non-teaching professionals with a TRN. It does not include the section 128 list of individuals prohibited from managing or governing schools. For that list, visit GOV.UK at: https://lnkd.in/eQ9Z25V5 Unlike Employer Access, the new service doesn’t have separate lists of prohibited teachers. You can search by last name and date of birth without needing a TRN. If no record is found, the person is not on a prohibited list.

On January 8, 2001, President George W. Bush signed into law one of the most significant pieces of education legislation in recent American history. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was a bipartisan effort aimed at closing the achievement gaps in public schools across the United States. This landmark legislation reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, including Title I, the government's flagship aid program for disadvantaged students. NCLB introduced several key components designed to increase accountability in education, including mandatory annual testing, academic progress monitoring, teacher qualifications, and funding linked to compliance with the law. Despite its ambitious goals, NCLB has faced criticism over its emphasis on standardized testing and its impact on teaching practices. Nonetheless, it represented a pivotal moment in the national discourse on education, setting the stage for ongoing debates about the best ways to ensure all students have access to a quality education. #GeorgeWBush #NoChildLeftBehind #EducationReform #BipartisanEffort #AchievementGaps #AccountabilityInEducation #StandardizedTestingDebate #MilestonesInHistory #EducationHistory
