Labor unions fought for our right to less exploitive working conditions. However, how many of these contributions can we say we’re actively leveraging? 🔵 Do you work more than 40 hours per week? 🔵 Do you take your paid time off? Do you avoid working on holidays? 🔵 Do you get overtime or flex your time? 🔵 Have you taken FMLA? 🔵 Do you take breaks, including lunch, during the workday? If you’re not utilizing these contributions, can this be a wake up call for you to make some changes in your workday and life? Happy Labor Day!
Happy Labor Day, worker power!

Today is Labor Day. You should pay attention to what this day represents. Labor Day celebrates the Labor movement. In the 1800's, American workers thought they were spending too much time at work. What's too much? For them it was 60+ hour per week. 60 hour weeks were normal for me, and for many who work in healthcare sales, especially when you count travel time to those distant accounts. The hours come with the job, and I used to tell myself, it beats the hell out of sitting in an office for 8 to 9 hours five days a week. Just don't let your job become your life. By this, I mean make sure that your priorities are your health, both physical and mental, and spending time with people that matter to you. And since today should be a day off (if you're not working on call), stop thinking about work and do something fun or reconnect with friends and family (pick up the phone, maybe?). The intent of Labor Day is to celebrate American workers by doing something other than work. So go goof off...it's your patriotic responsibility.

Why "Labor Day" isn't just another holiday. (And what it really means for you.) Most see Labor Day as a break. But do you know its true history? It’s more than BBQs and last summer trips. It’s a day born from struggle and sweat. A day that honors those who fought for change. Late 1800s: Workers demanded fair wages and hours. Strikes and protests swept across industries. They risked their jobs, health, and safety. And because of them, we have 8-hour workdays. Weekends off, and better conditions. But here’s the truth: We often forget this fight today. We get comfortable with small wins. But there are still battles to fight. Low wages, burnout, and toxic workplaces. Real people face these issues every day. Here are 2 effective ways I use contribute to help labours: 1️⃣ Support Fair Wages: Advocate for fair compensation. 2️⃣ Promote Safe Working Conditions: Ensure every worker’s safety. Action Steps: ♻️ Share this post if you believe in fair work. 💬 Comment on what Labor Day means to you. ➕ Take one step this week to support your colleagues. 🫱🏼🫲🏼 Together, we build more than just careers. 💖 We build a community that thrives. 📌 So, what does Labor Day mean to you? 👇 #labour #day #worker #exhaustion #burnout #help #people

The danger of 'stats'. We're seeing now, as bonkers Election-fever strikes the UK, everyone is saying: everyone else is rubbish. And here's a 'stat', to prove it. Here's an example. According to this report, (in the politically neutral Daily Telegraph...), we're a bunch of workshy layabouts. Nobody wants to Work. Hang on, would you not EXPECT there to be less Workers, than what there were in 1971, a year being quoted here? When I started work in 1982, I expected very few people, if anyone, to be working, in the 21st Century! Office Computers and the Internet weren't even invented then, so imagine how many 'Jobs' these two things must have resigned to history, since then? Also, just about EVERYONE I know who are the same age as me (older but a long way from retirement) don't work now. This isn't just an elite few, this is Public Service folk, HMRC, Coppers, Marketing Folk, Whisky People, Journalists, Firefighters, Nurses, Oil Service Workers, Bankers, Council folk. 'Regular Joes and Jos'. ALL these people, who aren't ridiculously wealthy but just normal folk, are included in this 'stat'. If you multiply my not entirely unique circle of pals by everyone in the same erm...boat, in the entire UK, it's easy to see, it's totally meaningless. Of COURSE we have less Workers than we did, in 1971! If we had MORE I'd be really worried and mankind must be doomed! In the next few weeks, don't pay any attention to 'stats', from ANYONE! They can be made to cause 'fear and alarm', in even the most sensible person!
