Sobering read by Matt MacWilliams about the drop in consistent support for democracy across Europe, referencing also the polling & research the European Movement International did together with him in 2022. We need a better offering, citizens engagement with democracy cannot manifest itself just through voting in elections, especially since the complexities of the democratic process might obscure the link between their vote and the results they desire. We must give citizens direct access to the decisions that affect them, by making our democracy more participatory, so their contact with democracy (and their affinity towards it) doesn’t just depend on casting a ballot every 4-5 years.

A great uncertainty is growing in Europe. The European election will decide if we all have to face an increasing war scenario from one side or a populist and right rhetoric. Can we have another choice? Can we have a European parliament where the main topics will be democracy, civil rights, work, health and a correct industrial development? The future is in our hands but we have to choose between two different stupid views of the world. I hope this historical period will pass fast.
