One of the most common questions I get from new PPC clients at Make Digital Inc. is, "How much should I expect to spend on my ads?" We can get pretty detailed to help clients understand this, and it involves a two-part process: First, we need our clients to determine their campaign objectives. What’s the dollar figure you need to sell? How many sales or leads do you need? Basically, what’s the return on investment you’re aiming for? ______ Once we have that, the ball is in our court. We dive into researching 5 to 8 core keywords or themes relevant to your business or product. We find the expected cost per click (CPC) in your target region for these keywords and average them out. This gives us an average CPC to expect. Next, we look at your business category/industry. We review the benchmarks for expected click-through rates (CTR) and conversion rates. From there, it’s just simple math… For example: If you need 100 conversions a month And the average CPC is $1 And let’s say the conversion rate is an unrealistic 100% You’d need to spend $100 on advertising.
