As we progress into the latter half of 2024, there have been considerable changes in economic conditions, the rate environment, credit markets, and buyer-seller dynamics. Although some uncertainty persists, the pillars of a much stronger M&A market are taking shape. Concurrently, many private equity groups are contending with a relative lack of high-quality opportunities, valuation gaps between buyers and sellers, and the need to generate liquidity for investors amid elongated hold periods. In this complex environment, PEGs are increasingly exploring innovative approaches to generating liquidity, raising capital, and financing growth. A growing number are achieving these goals through various private capital solutions, from GP-led secondary transactions like continuation vehicles to portfolio company financings, including preferred equity.
