This article touches on the challenges that prevent IT engineers from achieving the utopian level of observability they strive for due to inherent complexities of modern IT environments and the limitations of traditional monitoring approaches. Considering that I work at Arista, you can probably can guess where I'm going with this. Arista has fundamentally changed networking for the better by creating the most application centric and observable networking solution, ever. It has been a slow process over the years of strategically adding one technical building block after another. Arista's approach to observability in the IT environment has truly created a paradigm shift that no other vendor is prepared to match. It all comes together with EOS/Cloudvision real time Telemetry, CV UNO, the NetDL data lake, and the DANZ NPM and NDR solutions, all of which are the initial building blocks for the ultimate Zero Trust solution - which is another interesting, and evolving, discussion in itself. Keep your eye on us, there is much more to come! If you want to geek out a bit on the technology and what the future looks like - see this Youtube video: https://lnkd.in/dTNe9_C9.

Are contracted Service Levels (SLAs) dead ☠️? Or are they critical for great IT services? In my 25+ years working with major enterprise organisations, SLAs have always been non-negotiable in technology contracts. They set clear expectations for service levels and accountability. But I’m super surprised by - Medium-sized businesses overlooking SLAs when signing IT contracts - IT providers refusing to offer meaningful SLAs for their services How can any support contract exclude a committed time to restore a service failure? Where is the accountability!? I think the right SLA's are essential for great IT service - they are the starting point of a partnership that drives innovation and improvement. Agree? https://lnkd.in/gq5a4vD3 Mohawk Technology #technologyforbetterbusiness

With CPS 230 on the horizon and my experience in assisting organisations with post-incident reviews, navigating complex transformations, and decommissioning legacy systems, I believe observability is an essential capability for any financial services organisation. It can concurrently strengthen resilience, enhance productivity, improve customer experience, and give confidence in change. Initially, I was sceptical, but having seen this in action, and the opportunities and risks it quickly reveals, I am very excited about this capability! https://lnkd.in/g3_BryDu

#ServiceReliabilty continues to be one of the major challenges being faced Telcos today Despite the investments of telco operators in redundancy, reliability has been hard to manage and achieve across the entire service chain, while end-users are becoming more dependent. Major outages not only imply revenue losses but also cause bad press and brand erosion. Recent major outage examples in Japan and Canada highlighted the critical importance of reliable networks. On July 2, 2022, Japan's KDDI Corp experienced a 60-hour disruption affecting over 30 million customers, crippling services like emergency calls and data access, and impacting various sectors reliant on its network. Shortly after, Canada’s Rogers Communications faced a nationwide outage lasting around 17 hours, disrupting phone and internet services for millions and affecting essential services, including banking and healthcare. Both outages stemmed from routine maintenance updates. In response, KDDI and Rogers apologized and pledged compensation, with Rogers estimating refunds of CAD 150 million. A class action lawsuit has also been filed against Rogers. How can #BellLabsConsulting help? A good plan to avoid future outages requires performing a multi-discipline assessment of E2E services. First, we carry out an Architecture and technology scan of the network covering failure points, fault tolerance, scalability and detection and recovery mechanism to ensure adherence to key architectural principles. Second, we perform an Operations assessment covering organization readiness, operations technology, data readiness, performance, and support readiness to identify operational risks in service lifecycle management. Finally, we execute a Quantitative analysis leveraging Bell Labs Consulting’s proprietary Reliability models to obtain E2E Recursive Reliability, Risk calculations, and sensitivity analysis.
