Last week we talked about sample prioritization and if the MALDI Biotyper® has a feature for that. The correct answer is YES, the MALDI Biotyper® provides a target prioritization feature for urgent samples. Never heard about this? Well, then listen closely 😉 We know how important it can be to measure some urgent samples as quickly as possible. Therefore, you can interrupt a run at any time and squeeze in your urgent samples, having the results within a couple of minutes and then continue to measure your previous target seamlessly. Maybe you never needed this feature due to the high acquisition speed itself of our star. As a full MBT Biotarget 96 only takes around 5 minutes to deliver the identification results (note: with the latest MBT Compass HT software), one might say it is so fast there is no need to interrupt it. But for those cases you need to, you absolutely can do so! Are you going to try out this feature? #BrukerMID #microbiology #GOTsirius #MythMonday

This is interesting. I remember years ago when I was a graduate student, it was about the time when it was becoming popular to perform bacteria ID using MALDI. I ask the Prof that present the data during the talk, the exact same question, is it possible to ID bacteria (URTI e. coli) of different subtype based on the difference in expressions of the OMPs or the antigen surfaces. The answer then was no one has done it yet, likely not possible as there are too much similarities than differences. Guess it’s likely to be possible now based on this example. Its interesting to see how things we learn to be not possible slowly becoming possible due to the advancement in science and technology.
