🛰️Countdown: Europe's BepiColombo probe will make its fourth close flyby of Mercury on September 5, 2024, bringing us eagerly anticipated new images of the planet's surface. This joint European-Japanese mission, launched in 2018, is nearing the final phase of its seven-year journey through the inner solar system. Meanwhile, Bruker's FTIR spectrometers are actively generating data in labs worldwide, ready for comparison with the mission's spectral findings. Read more👉 https://lnkd.in/eCRuPDur

The IceCube project, led by scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is located at the South Pole and consists of a underground observatory that uses blocks of Antarctic ice to detect neutrinos. Instead of using traditional detectors on the surface, IceCube takes advantage of the unique properties of Antarctic ice to detect neutrinos passing through the Earth, using digital optical detectors, known as digital optics modules (DOMs), which are buried and submerged in the ice 2.4 kilometers below the surface. When a neutrino interacts with a particle in ice, a blue light called Cherenkov radiation is generated. This light is detected by the DOMs and recorded for later analysis. Although the main objective of IceCube is to study neutrinos and better understand the cosmos, it has also repeatedly considered the be able to use this technology for the generation of renewable energy. #RenewableEnergy #NeutrinoEnergy #IceCubeProject

Fantastic’ particle could be most energetic neutrino ever detected The ultra-high-energy neutrino was spotted by deep-sea detectors and could point to a massive cosmic event. More details in "Nature" publication: https://lnkd.in/gVywZ2rx Interestingly, the very special KM3Net scientific observatory located at 3500m water depth in Sicily, gets its power, communications and ultra precise clocking over a 110 km umbilical #DCFO infrastructure. ASN is just proud to contribute (a little bit) to fundamental science research, beyond the legacy DC/FO subsea control infrastructures for Oil and Gas production and Carbon Storage. ASN is contracted to expand the DC/FO for KM3Net. #neutrino #subseacontrol #umbilical #DCFO #offshore

💡 New Space Exploration Technology! 🚀 25 years ago, I discovered the Lazarus effect at CERN (https://lnkd.in/dQca9MFc), a phenomenon that could now revolutionize deep space exploration. A recent article in Next Energy (https://lnkd.in/dUZvhVcj) hints at a groundbreaking application: using this effect to develop miniaturized nuclear batteries, potentially transforming future missions like the STARSHOT initiative (https://lnkd.in/d-P3CH-m). These innovative batteries, built on strontium-90 and silicon instead of the much more expensive nickel-63 and diamond (https://lnkd.in/dJSd8Uzh), could be also easier to manufacture. This advancement couldn't just be a leap for deep space probes; it's a testament to how persistence in scientific inquiry can lead to transformative applications years later! #SpaceExploration #Innovation #Science #LazarusEffect #STARSHOT #NuclearBatteries #CERN

New Post: Making Ultra-fast Electron Measurements in Multiple Directions to Reveal the Secrets of the Aurora - https://lnkd.in/dvrcSa9R energetic electrons that drive the aurora borealis (the northern lights) have a rich and very dynamic structure that we currently do not fully understand. Much of what we know about these electrons comes from instruments that have fundamental limitations in their ability to sample multiple energies with high time resolution. To overcome these limitations, […]

A recent publication from Science Direct highlights the importance of the Impedans Semion system in developing piezoelectric energy harvesting methods through hypervelocity atomic oxygen impacts in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Semion measurements were crucial for assessing atomic oxygen impact velocities in a simulated oxygen plasma environment. This research presents a novel approach to energy generation in space.
