🌍 We were awarded as one of the 7 Brussels Wonders This Thursday, October 19th, marked a milestone in our journey as we received the Sustainable Award from visitbrussels. The visitbrussels Awards reward initiatives from Brussels-based organizations that contribute to making our exciting city of Brussels shine at a national and international level. Next to more than 30 outstanding projects, Brussels Beer Project emerged as the winner in the 'Sustainability' category, following our decision to stop far export of our beers for ecological reasons. After obtaining the B-Corp label in 2022, recognizing businesses with a positive impact, we decided to discontinue the export of our beers to non-European countries after nine years of exporting to eight countries outside of Europe (and even the opening of a taproom in Tokyo!). These exports accounted for 10% of our production volume and involved the shipment of 50 tonnes of single-use plastic kegs. This drastic shift significantly reduces our carbon footprint, as we are determined to eliminate the use of single-use plastic kegs and focus on neighboring European countries. While we are quite proud to be recognized for our dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainability, we know we have still many challenges to face going forward & we are certainly at the beginning of the journey still.
