5 Essential PR Tips for Start-Up Tech Brands As a start-up in the tech industry, navigating the competitive landscape can be challenging. Especially if you are competing with a dense techpreneur population like that of Silicon Slopes in Utah. One powerful tool that can elevate your brand is Public Relations (PR). Here are five key tips on how effective PR can be in making a significant impact on your start-up: 1. Builds Credibility and Trust. PR helps establish your brand’s authority in the tech space. By securing media coverage in reputable outlets, you gain credibility that can attract potential clients and investors. Research shows that 61% of consumers trust recommendations from journalists over ads. 2. Enhances Visibility. A well-executed PR strategy can increase your brand’s visibility. This includes press releases, media interviews, and thought leadership articles. The more visible you are, the more opportunities you have to connect with your audience. 3. Shapes Your Narrative. PR allows you to control your brand's narrative. By sharing your story, mission, and values, you can engage your target audience on a deeper level. A compelling narrative can differentiate you from competitors and create an emotional connection. 4. Helps Manage Crisis Effectively. In the tech world, crises can arise unexpectedly. A proactive PR strategy equips you with the tools to manage and mitigate risks. Being prepared can help maintain your brand’s reputation during challenging times. 5. Fosters Relationships. Although much tech is geared toward connection, often times it can feel isolating to build proving disconnective in it’s mission. Building strong relationships with media, influencers, and industry leaders can open doors for collaboration and partnerships. Genuine networking with authentic interactions is crucial, and PR can serve as a bridge to connect with key players in your industry. Investing in PR is not just an option; it's a necessity for start-up tech brands looking to thrive in a competitive market. Remember, every story matters—make yours heard! #PublicRelations #TechStartups #entrepreneurs #BrandBuilding #MediaRelations #StartupSuccess #techpreneuers #storytelling #utahtech #brandtrust #publicist #consulting

"Is the timing right for PR?" 🤔 I've had the privilege of partnering with numerous early-stage startups across industry—and one question founders and/or their marketing leads often bring to the table in our early discussions is, "How do we know we're ready for a PR program?" Here are a few indicators to consider: 1) CLEAR MESSAGING: You've honed in on your unique value proposition and can clearly articulate what sets your brand apart from the competition. 2) TARGET MARKETS: You've tested your product/service in select market(s) and have a solid understanding of your target audience's pain points. 3) TRACTION: You've gained some initial traction, whether it's through customer acquisition, partnerships, and/or funding. 4) FOUNDATIONAL ASSETS: You have a website that reflects your key messaging, an active presence on the right social channels, and some digital assets we can work with as a starting point to put together a starter media kit. 5) GOALS: You have established visibility goals that align with your overall business objectives, i.e. increasing top-of-funnel awareness, securing funding, attracting talent, etc. (and a reasonable budget to invest). PR shouldn't just be about Share of Voice, media reach, and estimated impressions. Those are vanity numbers that—if obsessed over—harm PR’s potential. Here’s why: Every thought leadership piece, funding announcement, and feature in a tech publication works towards building recognition. A reputation. Trust. When you hit an inflection point, cool things start happening. Some of them you can quantify: — Like a decision-maker at that enterprise you've been dying to work with reaching out to say, "Hey, saw that article about your startup, let's talk." — Or an elite engineer applying who would have never even considered working at your startup if it wasn’t all over the news. — Or inbound investors wanting to get in on the next funding round. But a lot can't be measured: — Like exact RoAS thanks to PR/marketing synergy — Or the impact on your next valuation — Or the timeline of an eventual exit/IPO So we PR pros pay for services like Coverage Book, put together slides to show KPIs met, and reassure clients that "the numbers look good." But the real value comes from developing creative campaigns that resonate with your target audience. Or developing an angle we haven't considered yet to pitch your subject matter expertise. Or more coaching on how to nail your next interview. No disrespect to solutions like Coverage Book or to clients wanting to see reports, by the way. I get it. It's an investment. You want to see progress. But the real magic—kind of like love or joy or a sense of belonging—can't be quantified and takes time to build. If your PR firm isn't getting any placements, that's just incompetence. But if they're making you more and more notable every week— That's going to eventually snowball into a big deal (pun intended).

Are you a startup founder navigating the competitive funding space, confident about your product but feeling like your audiences just don’t get it? Trilligent’s Global MD Laura O. shares some thoughts below on how public relations can help close the gap. Want to learn more? Join us later this month for a free PR for startups 101 workshop – hit like and we’ll be in touch! ⬇ Why PR should be a priority in your startup's investment plan: I was recently reflecting on the number of pitch competitions I have attended this year where founders showcase their unique product, explain how it fits the market, and then request tens of thousands of dollars from investors to help extend their runway and enable them to take their product to the next level. Typically, on the investment PPT slide the founder talks through a pie chart broken into three equal pieces with a focus on product development, making additional hires, and sales and marketing. However, only very rarely do I hear founders talking about public relations as an integral part of their sales and marketing plan. My theory is that PR is not well understood by startups, seems expensive, and in a world dominated by social media, many believe that this and press releases are all you need to drive interest and sales. But this is where I think founders can be short sighted. 🎯 PR is a long game – it’s about what your customers and peers say about you when you’re not in the room. 📢 PR is more than blasting out press releases & posting on social media – it’s building thoughtful, trustworthy, and respectful relationships with journalists and industry partners. 🎵 PR isn't just branding – it’s developing your voice and thought leadership, so that no matter what you’re talking about, you hit the right note every time. In short, PR, by building your story and credibility, will achieve you a lasting ROI. In the rush to develop products and drive sales, it’s easy to overlook the value of PR. In today’s competitive landscape, a robust PR strategy should be the difference between a startup that struggles to get noticed and one that becomes a market leader. A successful PR strategy, achieving that sweet spot between brand awareness, brand trust, and brand love among your key audiences is more likely guaranteed if created by experts. Like freebies? If you are a founder and you would like to learn from our experts at Trilligent on how to hit that sweet spot, please hit the ‘’Like’’ button below and we’d be delighted to invite you to a free PR 101 workshop scheduled for later this month.

PR for tech The tech industry thrives on constant innovation, and so should the PR approach. Capturing media attention and building brand awareness in this dynamic environment requires a strategic and well-defined plan. Here at Jolen, we've honed our expertise in crafting impactful campaigns of an array of tech clients, from established brands to new startups. Let's explore the essential elements that form the foundation for success 🚀. 1️⃣ Know your products Firstly, the tech world is rife with jargons and tech terms that are not terribly relatable to your average consumer. It is, therefore, essential to make sure, you, as the PR expert, learn your craft well before you go about discussing it a language your audience understands. 2️⃣ Develop a compelling story In tech, very often, you'll be communicating about a brand new product not specifically on the market yet. This is where tech PR differs from other types of PR. You'll need to generate a compelling narrative to turn heads and show people how you are solving their pain points. 3️⃣ Build relationship with industry experts Tech PR is quite specific in that you must explicitly communicate the values, features, and innovation of your offering. And who is better to help convey these messages than someone who’s well versed with the industry ins and outs, as well as someone the audience will trust. Tech experts are, sometimes, the best endorsers you need to increase credibility for your campaign. Stay tuned for more tips 🙌 ! #Jolen #JolenConsulting #pragency #agencylife #publicrelations

Startup PR for Dummies Public Relations (PR) is not a high priority for most early-stage startups. If you keep in mind how many different hats founders have to wear in the early days to build a product, get customers, hire a team and raise money, you’ll understand why. However, I’ve seen plenty of founders miss out on PR opportunities like a funding announcement due to mistakes that would have been easy to avoid. That’s sad because startups can benefit from media coverage in multiple ways. Coverage by the right publications can generate inbound leads from potential customers. Good PR can also make you look much bigger than you are, which can be useful when you’re talking to potential customers and partners. Finally, sometimes the biggest benefit of media coverage is that it can help with recruiting by spreading the word in the startup ecosystem and contributing to your employer brand. Read more

🗞️ NEWS + Hard launch! We decided to pivot and update the agency name to better serve our journalist partners and our clients. 🕰 After 23 years as a PR consultant to startups, I can tell you that the long game and forging relationships with trusted media partners are the keys to successful, valuable content and placements. 🔗 While increasing SEO through backlinks is a valuable strategy, it was not our intention to lead anyone to believe that this is the only thing we do. SO- in pure authenticity as a business owner in an ever-evolving space, I had to reflect on the brand and the past year and ultimately decided to switch it up. At the heart of it, we foster relationships and tell stories to earn media coverage. When we "get a link" we do a an extra ✋ or 🤜 👴 "Landon" is my middle name, passed down from my grandfather who was the comms and PR lead for General Electric back in the day, taking over for Kurt Vonnegut when he decided he didn't like PR and wanted to be a writer (too bad that didn't work out for him 😜 ). R. Ned Landon was an inspiration for my career path and a mission-driven focus. It just makes sense to carry on. -Lizabeth, Founder 🤔 Feeling iffy about your current media relations strategy? PR 🤝 Social media Working in PR it's easy to get caught in a bubble of just checking online news sources, whether you're looking at Google News, Buzzsumo, Ahrefs or media monitoring tools. But we know journalists are KPI’d on social metrics too - so spending time on target publication’s social feeds is a great way to elevate PR content. Scrolling a publication's socials can uncover: 📰 What stories matter most to them 📈 Trending topics in the industry ✍️ Preferred headline styles 📷 Types of imagery they want All of this insight will make your life so much easier in the long run, helping to improve your PR process, from ideation right through to seeding content out. PR shouldn’t be siloed - lots of resource goes into its creation so optimising for other channels means you get more bang for your buck.
