Where we truly need to inspire inclusion in our workplaces, and especially in procurement and supply chain,
Is in leadership.
I am encouraged by the recent trends in our profession:
In 2022, 19% of C-level and executive leaders in the supply chain profession were women,
📈 Whereas that grew to 26% in 2023.
The foundation for a better representation of women in procurement and supply chain leadership starts with building an inclusive workforce.
While we have seen growth there in recent years, there is still a distinct gap between women who enter the profession,
And those who go on to climb its ranks.
These are the changes I believe we need to bring to bridge that divide:
➡️ Raise more awareness about the gender disparity – many people don’t even see it as a challenge in our profession
➡️ Encourage our women leaders to become mentors to other women in procurement, cultivating a support system within the profession
And importantly;
➡️ Include more women-run businesses as suppliers in our networks
The last point may not directly impact the numbers in our workplaces, but contributes to the overall power of representation, and spirit of inclusion within our industry.
This International Women’s Day, there’s a lot we need to reflect on to #InspireInclusion within our profession.
