This past weekend I celebrated my 4 year anniversary at Akkar. 4 years since I was lucky enough to inherit the Functional Safety network that Callum Davis had begun to build, and which we have persisted to grow out into a rich network of the best Safety, Security, Regulation and Development Engineers to continue the job of ensuring the world's leading future mobility companies are equipped with the talent they need to ultimately make the world a safer, more secure, and greener place.
Priorities have shifted in those 4 years, both in terms of consumer expectations, but also in hiring needs, too. For example, there is a greater emphasis on finding ISO/SAE 21434 experience since UN R155, or for finding someone to implement the SOTIF standard at blossoming AV companies. Even AI is being written into automotive safety standards through the development of ISO/CD PAS 8800. This all reflects the lengths the industry has come in those years.
My main hope is that in the next 4 years, hydrogen, or even environmentally friendly synthetic fuels, will become commonplace and affordable so that I might own a more earth-friendly car despite lacking the infrastructure to go electric, or even travel globally guilt-free.
Any other guesses on what we might see by 2030?
