No net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050. That is the European Green Deal's ambition for the EU. The EU Commission has been introducing a range of legislation to help achieve this ambition. From the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) to the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), the EU requires companies to prove that their products have not resulted in deforestation anywhere in their supply chain.🔗 One such piece of legislation is the The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This new legislation prohibits relevant products from being imported into the EU, placed on the EU market or exported from the EU unless they meet criteria on traceability and greater due diligence. 🌳 Our new whitepaper outlines what companies need to know about the new timber regulations before the implementation deadline. ☘ Do you know the difference between EUTR and EUDR regulations? Check out our new post to understand the transition! 👇👀 #EUDR #EUTR #Sustainability
Understanding the Transition from EUTR to EUDR 🧠 The European Union has recently updated its regulatory framework concerning deforestation and forest degradation, replacing the European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR) with the new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Here's a breakdown of what this transition means and the key differences between the two regulations: 📅 Implementation Timeline: The EUDR is set to take effect on December 30, 2024. Small businesses will have an extended deadline until June 30, 2025, to comply. 📈 What This Means for Businesses: The transition represents a significant shift towards more strict regulation of commodities linked to deforestation. The EUDR reflects the EU's commitment to sustainable trade and environmental protection. By broadening the scope and tightening the regulations, the EUDR is set to play a crucial role in the global fight against deforestation and its adverse impacts on climate change. Businesses operating within the EU will need to adapt to these changes by enhancing their supply chain management practices, investing in traceability systems, like our MARCO Track & Trace, and ensuring full compliance with the new requirements. The EU Deforestation Regulation is an important turning point in the fight against deforestation🌳 Coming into effect on 30th December 2025, the new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) aims to meet the EU Green Deal ambitions of no net emissions by 2050. The regulation will require companies across the consumer, retail and food ecosystem to prove that their product has not contributed in any way to deforestation - meaning action will be need to be taken at each stage of the supply chain 🔗 Our whitepaper outlines what the regulations look like and why now is the time for action. #EU-Parliament briefing on the #Green Claim Directive: Many labels claim products are 'greener' 'more sustainable' or 'eco-friendlier' than others. In 2020, there were around 230 active ecolabels in Europe, and 100 private green energy labels have been mapped in the EU. Can consumers or companies be sure that these claims are based on solid grounds? In 2020, the European Commission found that 53 % of examined environmental claims in the EU were vague, misleading or unfounded, and 40 % were unsubstantiated. The absence of specific EU rules contributes to this situation. The 2019 communication on the European Green Deal stressed the need to rethink a broad range of EU policies to transform the EU economy for a more sustainable future – including those policies affecting production and consumption.
