Tenacious advocate for diversity, equity, & inclusion in the workplace, and beyond. Passionate about mental health and making a difference.
Credit: Chief Lady Bird (Nancy King) “May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for MMIWGT2S and I wanted to share this portrait I created of Patience Commanda. Patience is a youth in my community with a passion for teaching; she remembers & honours our kin who have suffered at the hands of colonialism and heals our people with her dancing. Patience was quoted in the media, speaking out about how Indigenous women and gender-diverse folks are often silenced and unable to tell our stories. I wanted to uplift Patience today and her mission to walk in a good way, educate, and give our relations a voice. I know she's gonna grow up to do amazing things (she's already an incredible young leader) and I'm so proud of her. If you'd like to read the MMIWGT2S inquiry, you can find a link in my bio. Please educate yourself. Looking at statistics is one thing, but understanding that systemic racism and colonialism are the main contributing factors to the historical and ongoing violence Indigenous folks face, is crucial. The statistics don't include Black Natives due to pervasive anti-blackness, and that's something that needs to be addressed. Gone are the days of victim blaming. It's time to hold the perpetrators of violence & the interceptors of justice accountable. White supremacists. Misogynists. Racists. Cops. The Canadian Government. Settler Colonialism. Toxic Masculinity. Today I am sending love to all folks and families who have experienced loss of their family & community members. And I want to urge people to go beyond wearing a red shirt today. Do your research. Educate yourself. Learn lateral love. Dedicate yourself to undoing the ways these misogynistic and white supremacist systems have engrained racist doctrines into the fabric of our society.” #MMIWG2S #RedDressDay @chiefladybird

Juneteenth is rapidly approaching in the U.S. It can feel disheartening to see some of the trends in DEI/ESG/CSR space of late…which is why it’s more important than ever to have hard conversations around race, equity and justice…even if we don’t have all the answers. Join us for this important RealTalk next week!
➡️ On the next RealTalk, just a week prior to Juneteenth, we take an honest look at the dark history of slavery in America and how its legacy persists through the unjust mass incarceration of Black people today. We'll explore the role we, as Social Impact professionals, can play in becoming proactively anti-racist as both companies and individuals. Join Angela Parker and Megan Strand on Tuesday, June 11 at 1:30-2:30pm ET to thoughtfully discuss and reflect on: ☑️ The roots of systemic racism and racial oppression ☑️ How to confront our own biases ☑️ How to dismantle barriers that perpetuate the "us vs. them" divide in society ☑️ Social Impact's role in dismantling systemic oppression ☑️ Recognizing Juneteenth as an opportunity to celebrate, reflect and recommit Register here: https://bit.ly/3VfpM64 #DEI #Juneteenth #CSR #SocialImpact #ESG

7 RACIST RED FLAGS WHITE ALLIES NEED TO KNOW - PART 2 Welcome back to my brand new series called, “7 RACIST RED FLAGS WHITE ALLIES NEED TO KNOW”. In this video, I’m covering racist red flag #2. Anytime you see a white person who claims to be FOR freedom, justice, equality, and protection, but they have no clear, strategic plan for how they are fighting for the freedom, justice, equality, and protection of Black people, that’s a red flag! This is NOT the time to be winging it, making it up as you go along, or moving strictly based on your emotions of fear for the future, or guilt about the past. That is NOT sustainable! If a certain group of white supremacists can create, develop, enact, and fund Project 2025, white allies, and the “good white people” should also have a clear, strategic plan, both personally, and politically/systemically. Get rooted and ground in this fight for collective liberation, by creating your own l anti-racist action plan. I’ve already created a special resource to help you create your own, personalized, anti-racist action plan, and also develop an anti-racist journaling practice, to support you in your journey of strategic ACTION! You can get it right now, at the link on my profile, and in the comments below. Anti-racism is not a diet. It’s a lifestyle.™️ #antiracismschoolisinsession #blackhistory365 #diversityequityinclusion #dei #socialjustice #education #workculture #womenleaders #blacklinkedin

Today, I had the incredible opportunity to hear the writers of the play, Disonnance, speak about its genesis, the deeply meaningful process to create it, and its impact that continues a positive ripple effect. I heard them share that Unity and Love is the foundation for the raw and real conversations that have deepened their friendship and inspired more conversations to see one another and share 100% of ourselves. Thank you Helen Higginbotham, Esq., MBA of When Black Women Gather for another impactful conversation. If you missed it, here is the recording.
