Did you know that nearly 2 in 3 workers globally feel “vacation deprived,” according to Expedia's latest report? This feeling is particularly strong in Europe, where workers in Germany and France take the most days off yet still feel it’s not enough. Germans take an average of 27 days, while the French enjoy 29 days off per year, but 84% of Germans and 69% of French workers still feel they don't get enough time away from work. The cultural mindset around work and leisure plays a significant role. For example, in France, time off is seen as a basic right, while in Germany, only 42% of employees feel supported by their employers in taking their full vacation time. This lack of support can lead to guilt and an inability to truly unwind. Contrast this with Japan, where despite taking fewer days off (12 days per year), workers spread their time off throughout the year with frequent mini-breaks, which seems to help them feel less deprived. For professionals across Europe, this raises an important question: How can we balance our work and leisure to avoid the dreaded "vacation deprivation"? Instead of saving up for one big annual trip, could we benefit from more frequent, shorter breaks? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
