As we close out the month of July, it's interesting to take a look at stablecoin flows across ecosystem. Within the L2 space, total stablecoin circulating supply on Arbitrum led the way and grew by 10% month-over-month. Arbitrum also crossed the $4B threshold for the first time ever and now stands at $4.34B, the most ever for the network and the most amongst all L2s. Meanwhile, Optimism grew by 5.5% (now at $1.27B) and Base remained flat (now at $3.03B).

Critical Denial of Service (DoS) via Relayer Fund Draining A critical vulnerability was found in a bridge allowing attackers to drain relayer funds by spamming the transaction. The target function in Polkadot is permissionless and relatively cheap, allowing anyone to create and send these messages, which are then queued for relayers to process. Executing these messages on Ethereum incurs significant gas costs for relayers. By overwhelming the queue with those transactions, attackers can force relayers to exhaust their funds, effectively halting the bridge’s message relay and causing a denial of service. If exploited, this vulnerability could disrupt the entire bridge operation, as the queue would be filled with costly transactions that relayers cannot afford to process, leading to significant delays or total cessation of message processing.
