BTG participated in Dress in Blue “BLUEsday” to bring awareness to colon cancer during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer can be prevented, and it’s highly survivable when caught early. Screening can find colorectal cancer early, when treatment is most effective. “Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. The American Cancer Society’s estimates for the number of colorectal cancers in the United States for 2024 are: About 106,590 new cases of colon cancer (54,210 in men and 52,380 in women) About 46,220 new cases of rectal cancer (27,330 in men and 18,890 in women)” - The American Cancer Society #colorectalcancer #coloncancer #coloncancerawareness #GetScreeened https://lnkd.in/eRqCQ8yB

👩🔬 April marks Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness of the UK's fourth most common cancer. Early diagnosis is paramount in all cancer cases, but this especially applies to bowel cancer. Diagnosed at the earliest stage, over 9 in 10 patients will survive, but survival rates drop drastically the later the disease is spotted. Raising awareness and screening has significantly improved detection and survival. According to Cancer Research UK (CRUK)'s 'Cancer in the UK' 2024 report, bowel cancer screening uptake has increased enormously in recent years. Less than a decade ago, under 60% of those eligible completed their bowel cancer screening kit, while in 2023 over 90% stated they would complete their next one. The FIT test has been instrumental in this shift, demonstrating that new, innovative and convenient diagnostic tests can make a real difference to screening success. The message, as ever, is clear: Have symptoms? Don't put it off, get tested. It may save your life.

Early diagnosis is critical to improving cancer treatment outcomes… but how can we achieve this when cancer is often so difficult to detect? In the cases of ovarian and prostate cancer, this can go undiagnosed due to the many symptoms that are linked with other, less serious conditions. March is both Ovarian and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month; this time each year, we have the opportunity to join others in spreading the word on the importance of early diagnosis. Why is this so important? · Ovarian cancer is the UK’s most deadly gynaecological disease, killing more women than womb, cervical, vulval and vaginal cancers combined. · More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year on average in the UK, and 12,000 lose their life. It’s vital that we raise awareness to aid earlier diagnosis and stop the devastating effects of cancer. The latest edition of our hallmark report, Cancer Facts and Figures, showed cancer mortality has continued to decline, resulting in more than 4 million fewer deaths in the US since 1991. Here are some key findings: For the first time, the projected number of new cancer diagnoses in the United States in 2024 will top 2 million, equivalent to about 5,480 diagnoses each day. Cancer mortality has continued to decline, resulting in over 4 million fewer deaths in the United States since 1991, but this progress is jeopardized by increasing incidence for 6 of the top 10 cancers. Colorectal cancer has moved up from being the fourth leading cause of cancer death in men and women under 50 years to first in men and second in women in less than two decades. Absolutely, April's focus on Bowel Cancer Awareness Month underscores the critical importance of early diagnosis, a principle that is equally vital in the realm of Lyme and tick-borne diseases. Just as early detection significantly increases survival rates in bowel cancer, identifying Lyme disease at an early stage can prevent severe complications and reduce suffering. The advancements in bowel cancer screening, particularly the success of the FIT test, mirror the need for innovative diagnostic approaches in Lyme disease. These advancements not only save lives but also highlight the power of early intervention and the importance of responding promptly to symptoms. Let's carry this message across: early diagnosis is a lifesaver, no matter the disease. If you're experiencing symptoms, seeking prompt testing is crucial.
