NOT SHAMEFUL TO REMEMBER Memories of war enable our society to remember the past, to express appreciation to those who sacrificed their lives and willingly served our country. At the same time we also need to acknowledge and accept that on occasions, events and happenings from the past, which would be considered unnecessary today, occurred for significant and highly acceptable reasons. Those of us today should never feel guilt nor shame for these actions, which some are constantly demanding that we do. This is why we, as Australians, come together every ANZAC Day. We do it to commemorate the ANZAC’s and their achievements: we should remember them though, not as old soldiers from a forgotten war, but as the young Australians each of them were in 1915, when they left our shores to defend Australia. Remembering moments from our history allows us as a society to learn from them and to move forward in a positive and determined manner. We cannot change history and nor should we, but we can and should learn from it. Australians young and old, will always remember them.

https://lnkd.in/gi6F9ZDr As a baby boomer, I grew up watching those black and white newsreels back in the 1950s before the Saturday matinee of the World War II battles both in Europe and in the Pacific. I remember hearing this song during that era. It's a song of hope. Even in the darkness of war, there is optimism for a better day. That was a time in our own country of realization that war is hell and that if war must be waged, as FDR declared "the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory." Do Americans today understand the concept of righteous might? I hope we still understand both parts of that. Righteousness and might. Might in the sense of strength, not might in the sense of maybe. Do we understand that we must win and that there are no runner-up or consolation trophies? Do we comprehend there is no substitute for victory? In the Philippines, the surrender at Corregidor led to the Bataan Death March. I wasn't there to second guess General Wainwright. But surrender to an heartless enemy is not a viable option. We have to confront China and stop the CCP aggression and hegemony now before it reaches the point of no return. Once again the Philippines is Ground Zero where we must take our stand. You can be certain that the Axis of China, Russia and Iran are more merciless than what we faced 80 years ago. Think that this is December 6, 1941. Instead of a fleet band competition at the Bloch Arena at Pearl Harbor, we are mobilizing to confront an enemy BEYOND our own shores. 🇺🇲

The Golden Bull of 1242 is a significant historical document issued by King Béla IV of Hungary, granting Zagreb, which is now the capital of Croatia, the status of a free royal city. This decree came after the devastating Mongol invasion of 1241-1242, which had left large parts of Hungary and Croatia in ruins. Recognizing the need to rebuild and fortify his kingdom against future threats, King Béla IV took several strategic steps. By elevating certain towns to 'free royal cities,' he granted them special privileges which included self-governance, exemption from certain taxes, and the right to develop their own judicial systems. This status was intended to encourage economic development, attract settlers, and rapidly recover from the ravages of the Mongol invasion. Furthermore, King Béla IV understood the importance of strong defensive structures and, as part of his kingdom-wide strategy, he initiated the construction and reinforcement of castles and fortifications. These strongholds served as both deterrents to future invasions and as administrative centers that helped to reassert royal authority across his lands. The Golden Bull of 1242 thus marks a pivotal moment in the history of Zagreb and the Kingdom of Hungary, setting the stage for the urban growth and the defensive strategy that would shape the region for centuries to come.

I am yet to find anyone who has a viable solution for peace in the Middle East. Here are two very strong & well articulated opinions on the conflict (without too may interruptions thankfully), however, although both arguments contain factual information, I have no doubt that the truth lies somewhere in the middle: https://lnkd.in/gyV-NB84
