We’ve been a fully remote company for over a decade and we still prioritize in-person time. How? We host individual team meetups and one big all-company retreat. (The timeframe of these varies depending on our budget & health concerns with traveling, in an ideal world we’d do both of these annually.) Company Retreats are the rare events where we meet up for a week of being together in-person with teammates from 53 cities. These are working weeks focused on aligning, learning, brainstorming, and problem-solving. Of course, we also schedule some fun activities, and try to squeeze in some downtime to recharge, too. Since we’re a distributed team, retreat locations can pretty much be anywhere in the world. This year’s retreat is happening in Cancún, Mexico! 🇲🇽 Our schedule for this time: ✈️ Retreat weeks generally run from arrival on Sunday or Monday (in some cases, teammates can arrive on Saturday to get adjusted to big timezone shifts) to departure the following Friday or Saturday. 📆 During the week, teammates work together from approximately 9am until 5 pm in a common work space. 🌴 There is also ample opportunity to enjoy meals and select activities together, as well as a bit of time for solo recharging or calling home. Our last company retreat was back in 2019, so we are very excited to get the full team together in person for the first time in 5 years. Over 50% of the team has joined Buffer since our last retreat, so we can’t wait to meet in “real life” soon. #remotework #companyretreat #teambonding
I hope to join you guys in your next retreat! Keeping fingers crossed and applying to vacancies whenever they're available on your website 💕 Have a blast!
Learnt something new, didn’t know Buffer was fully remote for such a long time.

9moCarolyn Kopprasch Balancing remote work with in-person retreats seems like a great way to maintain team cohesion. Curious, how do you ensure these events stay productive and not just a vacation?
