Story #24 of the many to follow! #hawksview #storytime
In marketing, we often hear the mantra: "Sell the benefits, not the features." This principle is just as crucial when it comes to personal branding, especially early in your career.
For example, a smartphone's feature might be its high-resolution camera, but the benefit is capturing life's precious moments in the best possible detail.
✍🏼 Here’s my short story:
When I started my career, it was tempting to focus on the features—my skills, qualifications, and experiences. Yeah, sometimes I felt so low— what do I even carry to exhibit?
Later, after gaining some real good experiences working day in and day out I understood—while these are important, what truly sets us apart is how these features translate into benefits for my employer or clients.
🎯Showcase Benefits:
- Instead of saying, "I have an experience in this transformation program," I started highlighting how my experience can help deliver complex programs with right quality, time and how that gain credibility and profitability.
- Rather than listing my proficiency in business, I explained how my skills streamline processes and save time.
While there were many other super talented individuals in my organisation, constantly I have been visible to the senior leadership for this reason.
💡Early Career Tip:
Remember, people are more interested in how you can solve their problems and add value to their lives.
Start thinking about your personal brand from the perspective of benefits. Ask yourself, "What positive impact can I make?" and "How can I improve the lives of those I work with?" This mindset will not only help you stand out but also build a strong, impactful personal brand.
