⭐️⭐️⭐️Last month marked a significant milestone as we concluded the engagement process for the Play Sufficiency Assessment, a vital initiative spurred by new Scottish Government regulations implemented in May 2023. These regulations mandate planning authorities, including Glasgow City Council, to evaluate the adequacy of play opportunities available to young people. The Play Sufficiency Assessment (PSA) aims to offer a comprehensive overview of outdoor play provisions throughout the local authority area.⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recognising the importance of capturing the voices and experiences of our city's young people, Glasgow City Council embarked on a journey to engage directly with them. Initially, traditional methods gained only 12 responses received citywide. Determined to amplify the impact of outreach, I took lead on collaborating closely with students from St Paul's High School to devise innovative strategies for engagement while fulfilling the assessment requirements. This collaborative approach proved immensely successful and served as a blueprint for broader implementation across all secondary schools in Glasgow. The results were truly staggering. Through the adoption of our co-designed engagement model, we witnessed an extraordinary 42,850% increase in responses, totalling over 5100 voices heard across the city. These insights not only enrich the evidence base for the City Development Plan but also signify the beginning of an ongoing conversation with our young citizens about the essence of wellbeing, expression, and play in Glasgow. We are now working towards creating reports for each school involved, balancing qualitative and quantitive data, sharing back to necessary stakeholders to take City Development Plan's forward.

A City master plan is critical for residents and the informal sector to understand and be among those constructing it. The exclusion and manipulation that eventually affects them either directly or indirectly are derivatives of a non-participatory and passive attitude in the processes that lead to how the City will be structured in a prescribed period. The existing conflicts and intolerance between the aforementioned categories and authorities can only be attributed to the lack of foresight by all stakeholders in the formation of erstwhile plans. I deliberately take part in all activities that seek to institute social change and influence sustainable development.

Future success and prosperity for the UK will depend on our ability to #innovate... to harness the challenges of today (climate change, global health, environmental degradation, economic inequality) and turn them into the opportunities of tomorrow (a clean and just energy transition, climate & nature resilience, greater health & wellbeing, new business models, digital transformation, education & skills) The Crown Estate is delighted to support UK innovation by announcing our proposals in #Cambridge to develop our 20 acre holdings at Cambridge Business Park, and transform them into a new thriving and biodiverse innovation ecosystem. This forms part of our long-term ambition to invest up to £1.5bn in the science, technology and innovation sectors and builds on our announcement earlier this year of our partnership and development activity in #Oxford with Pioneer Group and Oxford Science Enterprises.
Cambridge Business Park is set to take a role in supporting the UK’s science, innovation and technology ambitions! We have proposed a regeneration project with a potential Gross Development Value of £1.5bn that will see Cambridge Business Park provide a variety of office and lab spaces for starts-ups and established business, alongside a residential, leisure and cultural offer for the wider community. It will contribute to a new innovation ecosystem in Northeast #Cambridge. Initial proposals for the transformation of Cambridge Business Park will be shared as part of public consultation, due to commence later this month. Working with government and our partners, we intend to contribute to the UK’s #science, #technology and #innovation sectors’ success on the global stage. Redevelopment of Cambridge Business Park is the latest step on this journey, alongside our recent partnership with Great British Energy to accelerate development of renewable energy, and with Pioneer Gorup and Oxford Science Enterprise to deliver a new life sciences, technology and innovation space in the heart of Oxford.
